Ranking up with Multiple Super-powers

So, I found myself thinking-tonight-about how odd it is to be very high ranked with both the Federation & Empire at the same time, especially given their long history of antipathy & even outright war. It seems almost akin to being a General in both the US & Soviet armies during the Cold War ;).

So what I am wondering is, what do people think about the current situation....and how do they think it could be improved in the future?

Do you think there should be an absolute rule....no Empire rank if you are with the Federal Navy Auxillary?

Do you think it should be a hard cap-every rank with one Super Power means one off the maximum rank you can ever have with the other?

Do you think it should be a soft cap-with increased rank in one Super Power increasingly slowing down the rate at which you gain rank with the other Super Power?

On a related note, do you think that you should be treated differently when in the space of the rival Super Power.....based on how high ranked you are?

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

Yeah, I think there should be some restrictions so you can't hold ranks on both sides (otherwise what's the point of opposing sides?), though I think the main argument that came up before was that that would limit the ships you could fly and maybe the systems you could visit (which was a Bad Thing).

However the whole idea of the two sides has got watered down / made irrelevant by Powerplay, so I'm not really sure of its purpose anymore short of rank-locking some ships -- the only fed or imperial specific missions are the ones to rank up (and they're nothing special just standard missions with different titles). Maybe it could be incorporated into powerplay a little better - so that the different imperial, fed and alliance factions got along with each other rather than it being an all v all. So if you picked an imperial affiliated powerplay side you could safely fly through other imperial powerplay systems - any kind of inter-faction stuff would be covert or subtle rather than KOS as it seems now. This might have the unwanted side-effect of forcing everyone to pick a side, or remain independent (there'd need to be some benefit to doing this - access to restricted ships), but that might make the game a little more interesting...

Bit of a brain dump there, with emphasis on the dump.

Thinking about FD implementing Military careers, an absolute non sense to rank with each super power. Except for some kind of secretive aspect of the game like espionnage. But i really doubt FD will go this way.
