Ranking up

i am ranking up with the Federation currently and have got up to Lieutenant Commander so far i see that i need to make Rear Admiral to achieve access to a Corvette. After that i see no incentive to rank all the way to Admiral. Am i missing something or does admiral rank mean nothing in terms of Incentive or is it simply a target to achieve?

Don't forget the Corvette and Cutter have been added recently so there may well be future content that requires higher rank.

It is also said that MB wants to develop how Navy ranking and involvement with them works, but that's pretty much as deep as the details get atm.
