Is there a relationship between the amount of money a mission pays and the rank (trader/combat/exploration) ?

If so, what is the discipline used for piracy missions ?

The rank of the mission, and your reputation with the minor faction that issues the mission, affect the payout.

For pirate massacre type missions, being allied with the mission giver is needed to get the bigger payouts.

It's the rank that is shown in the description of the mission. It indicates (sort of) difficulty level.

all I see is a threat level, I'm on odyssey

You're talking on-foot missions? Not ship missions?

Anyway, in Odyssey they sort of replaced rank with Threat Level. It has a small effect on the payout, but it's not very accurate as far as difficulty goes.
