Ranks in ED are Pointless

Honestly the ranks in the Federation/Empire are pointless. You shouldn't have to waste time ranking up in a military just to get a special ship. It doesn't really give you any benefits other than that.

You need to the ranks to get access to those ships. That is the point of them. Why shouldn't you need to do something to qualify for some ships/equipment? You might as well argue that all the ships should be free because you shouldn't have to waste time building up credits just to buy them.

Incidentally the military ranks also provide permits for several systems so the ships are not the only benefit.

Rank means permissions and ships right now, more will probably be added, but what were you expecting them to give at this stage? at all?

Which is the whole point of having that system: you get access to a ship others don't. Plus who knows what else will happen in the future?

No, I just think that once you've earned all the credits required for something like the Clipper, you shouldn't have to take even more time to get it.

Additionally, the system permits aside from the SOl one (cool factor) don't offer any benefit in terms of making money, or do they?

I saw one system that I have a permit for that seems to have a commodity at a very low price - unfortunately it was a while ago and I didn't follow up on it at the time. perhaps it's time to go through all the systems I have permits for and take a closer look.

Games are a waste of time. What is your point? It's a progression system. If you don't care for the ships, don't do the progression. They are just one of many goals you can shoot for. If you don't like wasting time, don't play games.

I don't see why people complain about military ranks in ED, the only thing they prevent you from is getting a few ships if you lack the rank, and I always get the rank LONG before I have the cash for a ship. (it would help if I stopped making poor choices like SLOWING DOWN TO TALK TO PEOPLE when they sound kind of hostile, but that is all on me)

I've never even fired on another ship and I have the ranks required for both Feds and Imps for their special ships. It took no effort whatsoever.

I've got a question about my current rank right now. this may not be the right thread but I may get a answer here. If not, please direct me to the right one. So here it is.

I have been going through the Federation Ranks for the Federal dropship. Well, it was going fine and dandy and I was progressing nicely up to the point of where I reached Warrant officer. After doing doing countless mission for small factions relating to the federation I still am unable to get a Naval rank progression appear on the Bulletin board. I have tried for several day now to get one to appear, I have even sent in a support ticket for my problem. Does anybody know where, who, or how I can get this resolved? I am running out of patients for this.

On this thread :

I also think the Federation and Empire ranks are a joke right now, besides giving you certain permits that unlocks systems, there is no other true benefits from it. I don't receive special treatment, nor discounts. They whole system needs to be overhauled or redone.

Could you give thoughts on what you'd like to see it redone into? because at best I am seeing maybe discounts for allies, and larger selection of stock, say a station that normally only sells up to class 2 would have class 3 available for allies? but beyond that, I don't know, and it wouldn't surprise me if wings update does change some things.

Well, I believe that once you hit a certain rank you can become a Federal patrol escort and get paid by the federation for taking down wanted, Empire or alliance. You should receive aleast a 25% or more discount off any federal ship in a Federation controlled system and have access to high end gear that Feds get. (not sure but, hey)

I would like my first question answered now.

A thing you get while doing stuff, access to other things, and maybe more things will be added to widen the scope of things provided by the original thing.

No clue, from the fixes it should pop up, so should show up at federation station when you have enough standing with the faction, granted from my understanding it needs to be one of the 'core' minor factions, but yeah, been too busy exploring to progress much in ranks.

Well, I guess I am going to have start over or go to the empire side and start ranking up over there. I'm not a fan of the imperial clipper though. Any names of the core factions would be helpful. I am getting really mad at this game because of it.

I am not a big PVP person but try to stick to PVE type of stuff within the game. However, I think that Federation ranks and Empire ranks is a great way to get people involved into game.

To OP you are right there are no points in ranks just ranks :)

But as others have said the game is in framework stage in this area so fingers crossed for a decent update to flesh it out.
