So I'm about 50% progress with my fed lieutenant rank but I have nothing to really show for it, I know they are part of the grind to get up to the desired ships but bar being a road block to instant gratification they have no other purpose. Why don't the dev's add it that with different ranks you get access to different faction perks/new weapon types akin to pp modules but without having to PP or discounts to gear or commodities?

Yeah, it would be nice. Even when you get to Rear Admiral, it doesn't mean much. A fed starport will still destroy you if you loiter on the docking pad 
that would be far too sensible and meaningful, you do get access to ships though, what more do you want
