Rant of the day.

Some random commander engages me at a planetary base on my way to do some missions. Ask him the purpose of his actions... Simple answer; "Just because I can".

So he goes out of his way, to engage someone whom he would never even succeed into killing before I jump into super-cruise, ok... <No need>

Do my missions in solo mode, easy no problem. Grab myself some appropriate weaponry to come back, get stuck in "seemingless" limbo twice. Get there, he's gone.

"Works as intended".

Not too sure I get what you're trying to say, did you expect the CMDR to wait for you?

OK this is today rant i get it. Can we get tomorrow another rant?
On a serious note, it's open and dangerous and the other commander just play the game. If he cheat somehow please report the guy, if it's not cheating everything is fine.

Aye this is one of the joys of open mode where looney-tunes rule the roost.

Not really, but I do suspect getting stuck twice in a 5 minute limbo ( had to close the process to free myself ) had something to do with him getting away.

I'm pretty sure I'm playing the game, as far as I'm aware this isn't CQC? I mean I tend to put some form of thought behind my actions, or at-least I try to! I really do!
Not sure how you "play" though.

I do distinguish "playing" and "brainlessly d***king around" though. Maybe that's the problem.

It's unfortunate that you got caught in the hyperspace limbo (Twice!) .. but in all honesty, if you finished your missions off, re-equipped and then went looking ... most likely outcome would have been that he/she would have been gone by that point, probably looking for someone else to attack.

Fingers crossed tomorrows Rant will be about how bad the 2.1 beta is :D

I'll wait on Sunday ;)

Although I can't strictly predict the outcome had things gone differently, it really isn't that far stretched. I hoped I would've at-least crossed him somewhere around the planet in SC or in either base. But anyhow, what irks me I guess was getting excited about showing a griefer his place, but got stuck in unfortunate mechanics.

I guess I should stop questioning people's motives at this point...

"Awesome! I got to chase someone for 23 seconds until he got away! FUN!"

I have a certain sympathy with ranting. Normally I don't play in open for this very thing but last night, attempting one of the CG's I decided to try open for the wonderful experience of a shared job. After I lost my Python to a Pirate who quite clearly has only just learned bowel control, my first thought was rant. I resisted only because of the mantra 'don't email when you are angry / drunk - wait 24 hours', something I try to do. My son was not quite as calm about it as I was, I shudder to think of what transpired after I logged off, but it is irritating; not because of the ship loss (although that at 3.4mCr was a bitter pill) but because of the childishness of the actions. If I do something wrong, I expect to pay the price. But getting shot out of the sky for simply existing, well that's not something I could have avoided / mitigated. Except of course, by going back to solo.

Which is where I am off to - see you out there Comm- oh, no, maybe not.

Ehh can't expect everyone you encounter to approach combat like "pardon me but are you outfitted for combat? If so then shall we duel?!" Some people play the game just to annoy others and probably if they happen to spot such a rant post, they'll sit back and have a good chuckle over it.

It's a shame about the limbos though, that is pretty annoying.

2/10

Not the best of rants, is it?

  • No use of caps
  • No use of bold / underline
  • No dramatic increases in font size
  • No collapse of coherency
  • No hyperbole

It all seems rather calm and collected to me.

You did get moderated though, that counts for something.

Yes indeed is not CQC. CQC is too boring in my opinion because really lack the punishments (aka pay when you lose ships and when you lose games you have to lose experience points). As for my play style is easy: i play this game as intended, using my ships and weapons nothing less, nothing more and of course no cheats.
Maybe your definition of playing the game is other than mine but nevertheless both are valid.

I think you've definitely missed a couple of Dev' notes if you think brainless PK is "playing the game as intended" lol! It's been invalidated a good few times but np.

To follow up on your argument as to why you deem CQC boring, same could be said about the lack of punishment for brainless PK don't you think?

Doesn't take a genius to realize the fact we have 3 modes is exactly the result of what you describe.

To top things off, by your signature I'd deduce you to play as a pirate from time to time? Me too! Great fun! Less so when your argument is pretty much the cause for traders to shy away in group/solo.

Looking forward to tomorrow's rant as today's was.......................................... (tries to think of a suitable derogatory word that won't get me another Mod Infraction...........Er No can't think of one that won't add to my forum points, and points don't mean prizes in this game :) )
