Rapid Ride what needs to improve over the rct3 one

Well what bother me in Rct 3 wild rapids, where the lack of interaction elements within the track itself, like wave machine, logs(to create different waves) waterfall elements. Different Obstacles that boats could bump into.

Other thing that bothered me was the way the track pieces are so confining, i hope you guys would use the same principal of making rapid track like the path system so you can make it longer and wider, so you can create a dynamic rapid ride.

Also i hope that the water in the track would get bit more flow to it not that static like in rct3.

these principals you could also apply for the log flume

I would like to be able to build water rides (rapids, log flumes, dark boat rides etc.) in existing natural lakes (or rivers if that is going to be possible) that have been made with the terrain tool. So basically it would place metal side rails in to create a channel for the boats and propel them along in the channel. Much like the traditional Pirates of the Caribbean rides around the world.

Hmm a normal channel wouldn't be enough :D I think even there Detail is King: There are Different ways to Propell a Boat. Be it with a Cable underneath that is attached to Wheels under Water or Jets of Water that create a current. And i bet you my Butt they are working on these different Ride Systems as we speak :D And yes, i would love to be able to place these Ride Systems in existing Bodies of Water :)

In a Q&A Thread it was posted by Zac Antonaci, the Head of Community Management and I quote,"The current plan for water is to complement the terrain editing tools (although it won’t feature in Alpha 2) and allow you to create beautiful and authentic landscapes in which to base your park and build around. It’s not a full water fluid simulation, but it looks great, with refractions and optional roughness and more visual flair in the pipeline."

I may be wrong here, but my take on that is it won't be too much better than what we had in 2004 (12 years ago) with RCT3. If that is the case, I for one, will be very much disappointed because it means your river rapids and rafting rides will not be able to be made to look natural.

Thats quite an assumption to make, especially since we havent really seen any water yet. I dont neccessarily think "water rides" are the same thing as what your quoting, Zac was talking more specifically about water as a terrain or landscaping feature. Obviously, they havent announced ANYTHING to do with water rides yet, so maybe the actual rides will be better than you expect

I should hope so! But this part is what gives me that impression," It’s not a full water fluid simulation." It was not a full water fluid simulation in 2004 either.

Some great feedback here. I agree the rapids ride in RCT3 was limited and rather boring to ride and build. With the awesome terrian tool PC has the rapids ride could look really great but will need extra features to the ride itself to be really good. A turntable station to would be awesome to see!

I think it really just needs to have the option of having variable width water channels, just like they have done with the path system. Wide enough that you can raise terrain on the edges to create more realistic riverbanks, as well as scenery. Allowing for different segments of track, like logs and rapids, while making sure that the water speeds up appropriately on slopes, I think would make a very good and believable river rapid ride.

And yeah, I would love to see the new modern design for a rotating station platform, with rustic log and contemporary theme options.

....... It’s not a full water fluid simulation." ....
This is the quote that concerns me. This is just a guess, but what I'm thinking he meant is that you won't be able to pour water into a spot and have it flow naturally down a hill, etc. I understand how that may be difficult to implement with everything else going on in the game. What I'm at least hoping for is that there will be a really nice looking (albeit faked) water system where the water appears to flow - similar to rct3 but more realistic. I would be happy with that.

I guess this will be the Case. I'm sure they give us the Tools to make Waterfalls. But i'm not so sure about flowing water though. We will have to wait until they let us play with the first implementation of Water in Alpha 3 :D

Andrew Fletcher stated that, not Zac just for confirmation. As creaper says, quite a few assumptions being made here - let's just see what they have to show us in the coming weeks and take it from there.

For Frontier to do this properly they'll need to rethink the way water rides have been built in the past. They'll have to come up with an updated solution. I was never a fan of what was done for RCT3 as it looked so out of place most of the time. It was hard to get the water rides to look authentic.

Personally, I'll be happy as long as I can build water rides on a spline (like the coasters) and submerge their tracks/channels into bodies of water. I'm going to want to make things like the Jurassic Park River Ride, Tidal Force, or Thunder Canyon Rapids. Anything that helps make that possible is a welcome addition!

Was going to say that the spline system from the coaster lends itself to the log flume requirments. They just need to build track pieces that we can manipulate.

What I believe would ideally work is;

t
  • rack length and angle selection (basically the coaster builder)
  • track width selection (similar to paths) to produce different section widths as desired on the same flume
  • select where chain lift is needed to pull the log up the flume
  • select the base of the drop as a special piece (similar to selecting the chain lift) so we can adjust the amount of splash created by the log (via the belt system where we select different heights and widths) this means we can tailor if the splash reaches people crossing the exit/a path or similar.
  • option for enclosed sections (polycarbonate tubes)
  • ability to place water soakers (coin operated) around the exit/entrance path or within a set radius of the flume (wouldn't personally want them place-able all over the park as that is not how they are found in real parks)
  • the flume station to work similar to coaster so it can have the building constructed around it if desired
  • different themed/options for the flume & station style

I think that covers the flumes generally. Similar ways of creating other water rides could be implemented for rapids with different rubber rings (individual/group etc) .

Other water rides that would be good (not covered above):

Old Mill/River Cave (boats that generally float through dark ride areas via guideways
Bumper boats (controllable rubber ringed either via pedal or electric motor, can also be equipped with water shooters so people can squirt water at each other)
Shoot the chute (different to log flume in that the boats slide down the shoots with much larger boats (18-24 people compared to around 6-8) with longer drops and having adjustable electromagnet brake system to control the wave created)
