Raptors, Herding and Sleeping.

I think the game will just be released too soon. It would have taken them 3 - 6 months more time to make the game what it should be now.
But Universal is probably making pressure on the devolpers for making the game to come out in the period of the release of Fallen Kingdom.

Universal also came to Frontier after Jurassic World was released 3 years ago.
I believe that it is very difficult to program a game of this complexity and scale from scratch in just 3 years.

They admitted the had 18 months to do this game. Thars no time at all.

Hi everyone, with regards to the dino AI and herding comments: Dinosaurs behave as individuals, although species share characteristics and so will often be found engaged in the same activities and in the same areas (for socializing or feeding). Dinosaurs also respond to nearby dinosaurs in a number of ways, such as fleeing from a predator or panicking if another panicked dinosaur runs nearby, which can cause a chain reaction in a busy enclosure.
I'll also reiterate again, that there's loads going on in the game and we are excited for its launch in a few days, but of course we are continuing to look at your feedback and will take this into future consideration (so not for launch, but in future patch), especially with regards to recurring feedback. Thanks for the continued support and understanding!

Thanks Bo.

So Again a NO to Herding. If they move together it is a coincidence or was planed and recorded for videos to look good.

I actually believe there is a form of "herding" here. Them moving together is not a coincidence because they require socializing activities!
As Bo mentioned, the dinosaurs behave as individuals, but they still require to socialize based on what kind of dinosaur they are. A carnivore might only need 1 individual while a herbivore needs 10 individuals to feel happy. The herbivores therefor congregate near other individuals. Pretty much the same as in the wild. A herd is just a group of individuals. Sure they might not try to defend others like buffelo's do. So "herding" in this game might not be as deep as what you might see in Africa on the plains but it does exist on a certain level.

Herding is the act of bringing individual animals together into a group (herd), maintaining the group, and moving the group from place to place—or any combination of those. Herding can refer either to the process of animals forming herds in the wild, or to human intervention forming herds for some purpose.

It indeed sounds like the "herds" are more a coincidence than a simulated animal behaviour. Why not use some kind of a alpha-animal-system, where one dinosaur gets randomly picked as the leader of a group, which contains a certain number of animals of the same species. Now all those animals in that group will simply follow the example of a leader, if he eats relaxed from a feeder or drinks, all the other animals do such activities. If the alpha decides its time to change location all the other animals of his group will simply follow her.
I guess that would be something the AI should manage and it would look like there are one or multiple herds in one enclosure.

In another discussion, I was mentionning how the "Matriarch" should be the oldest of each species you create and the others after follow her to a certain extend, cause technically, she has more experience. The probability of the others to mimic her is higher if they were created right after her ( 80 to 90 %) and less for the ones created last (25 %). When your Matriarch dies, the second oldest dino of that species you created takes over. This would show a sense of herding very similar to what we see in many species today. So STR-001 is your alpha Struthiomimus and the next ones follow her until STR-002 takes over when she gets eaten...

So to finally put this to rest this is what is happening in the game. There is NO arguing if you agree/disagree with it, this is how the game is going to be. Yes not everyone will ag sree with it or love it, or hate it but this is how it is. Any arguing will be instantly blocked. This is a friendly thread to give some Non rumored information.

Raptors are going to be able Stalk their prey in heards, they WILL be doing a turn based attack system, where they go one at a time. This was the decision frontier did and more than likely has to do with time constraints, but at least it is something.

Dinosaurs will be able to herd, They can socialize in groups and also walk together in heards, this has been seen in numerous videos.

Carnivores can also be seen running and killing prey as well as in the new short video that was released today.

Sleeping dinos do not exist sadly. Anytime we see something laying down it is either Tranquilized or Sick.

Feel free to add anything that is new information that people should know.

in a reply to a question asking about - lack of sleeping, fluent attacking, and other similar details - on there forum they say in a reply to the question

- We feel like we've already improved a great deal compared to what a lot of people saw in the March build - it's definitely something that we'll continue to look into after launch. If only a day had 45695692 hours!! -

so we may get those animation added later in a update or patch when they have more time but still awesome game i will add a link to that question forum below.
