Rare Comodities Trade #theSTRUGGLE

The struggle is real.
So I decided to try my hand at trading. Its not going well. :(

Bulk trades - I fall asleep at my HOTAS doing this. The grind is mind numbing.
Smuggling - Haven't got the fortitude for this yet. Soon though. Need a Millennium Falcon 1st.
Rare trade - Liked the idea. smaller quantity but higher reward. Just takes some searching out those rarest goods.

So I fully realize the word RARE is right in the title, BUT there are a few things that I just do not fathom.:S

I found myself a nice little 4 system loop to collect 5 different rare goods. Collected them on the 1st go round with a total of about 30 tons of cargo.
2nd loop almost no goods. Total of about 12 more for a grand total of 42 tons. Okay that's good.
Dropped them off for a nice profit. Grabbed some local rares and headed back to my little loop.
Okay 2nd trip 1st loop - almost nothing. Total of about 16 tons.:(
2nd trip 2nd loop - 1 item:(
Decided Id sleep on it. 12 hours later 2nd trip 3rd loop - NOTHING:S
Really? Nothing? Yep not a single rare. Iv looked through the forums and most all time related posts say wait 10min for restock.
?!?!?! I waited 12+ hours?!?!
Okay okay calm down. Good. Now wait in game for a bit. Maybe you have to be in game.
Sounds legit.
2 hours of waiting in game and still NOTHING. At any of the 4 systems.:S
I just don't get it. How does restock work?
Seems like I must just move on to other grounds. Maybe try back in a week?
IDK
Any Information, advice or other is greatly appreciated.
Fly safe CMDR's. May you have better luck than I. Godspeed o7

As it happens, I spent a while doing rare trading back in my Cobra days. Assuming this still holds, a good route is between the Lave cluster (Lave, Leesti, Diso, Orrere, Zaonce, Uzsaa) and a small collection route starting in Witchhaul and going through Fujin, 39 Tauri, Zeessee and George Pantazis. In a Cobra, a single run through each end's systems will usually get you 32t-36t of rares, which fits the cargo capacity nicely. In a bigger ship, you could do two rounds for 70ish tons.

If I remember right, there's one or two other systems at the Witchhaul end that also have rares, but I never bothered since I didn't have the cargo capacity to make it worthwhile. You can check the rares section of http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/ if you want to look into that.

[Edit] Restock works as follows: Each station that sells a rare commodity has a limited allotment that you can never exceed. So if, say, Lave has an allotment of 5t, and you have 5t in your cargo bay already, more will never spawn until you sell off those 5t. Hence why you need to do a collection route to make it profitable. The rare goods do repspawn until you reach the allotment, but it is quite slow - expect to wait at least 15 minutes in most places if you just sit there, and it may only spawn a couple per cycle.

Why thank you CMDR Carradin! You are a veritable fountain of information.:)
Im going to check out the rout you suggested. As I plan to swap from a Type 6 (I think. the 1st big hauler anyhow. 112ton max with no shield.)
to a Diamondback Explorer for rare trading, your rout should work nicely.
Well Im off to try this out!
Thanks again. Godspeed CMDR o7:cool:

Why thank you CMDR Chance-! :D
I'm going to try this rout as well as the other suggested.
Question for you specifically though: what do you think of the Diamondback ships? And suggestion for good smuggler.:)
Thanks again CMDR! Godspeed o7

The Diamondbacks are among the best ships in their size range. Excellent range, decent cargo capacity, speed and agility, and good hardpoints for their size. Scout is a bit light on internal space for my liking, and that does hurt its versatility, but it remains a good ship - You just can't make it do everything at once like you can, say, a Cobra or the Explorer version.

For smuggling, I'd go for speed above all else. Max out thrusters, go for the lightest modules for all other slots, and even weapons are optional: You aim to avoid any opposition (they might scan you, which is bad when smuggling), and get in and out of starports before anyone has a chance to take a closer look at you. Both Diamondbacks can do the job, but Cobra is probably the best ship for the role in that size range due to an amazing boost speed.

Point to point in a Cobra (never tried the Scout) , the loop in a T6. Hasn't made me 'Conda cash, but I don't grind I prefer to take it easy, get back to start point and mix it with some pew-pew.
Top Tip: If you're doing point to point, vary the stations that you sell at, does wonders for rep.
Some of the rares are not welcome at some systems, so if you're at the Lave end do Leesti last as the Evil Juice can get you in trouble locally, but seems to be fine at the Witchhaul end. Opposite applies for Wolf Fesh and those old weapons from wherever I haven't been for ages.
I absolutely detest Gin, but the stuff from Bast tastes like Pimm's! ;)

Grabbed myself the DB Expl. Kitted it out for smuggling. 44 tons cargo not 52 because I refuse to fly without shields. ;)
Obviously less total cargo space than my old T6, but I have more fun in the DB. I like docking. Its about the most fun part of this game. Flying in close quarters. Really looking forward to planetary landings.
Hopefully there will be city's, towns, mountains, canyons to fly around. Would also like larger space stations to fly around. Sorta like StarTrek deep space 9. Just a thought.:)
Anyhow, got a little off topic but I like the DB Expl. Nippy little ship.

Thanks again CMDR! Godspeed o7:)

Tried this out last night. As I have a smaller total cargo space, I cut out some of the stops.:)
Seems like total you could get about 60+ tons cargo with the full rout though.
That's really good. :)
.
I'm running the following rout:
Sell, Wolf 1301 - Saunder's Dive. <nothing to buy but its Anarchy so everything sells>
Buy, 39 Tauri - Porta - chimes.
Buy, George Pantazis - Zamka - pantaa sticks.
Buy, Zeessze - Nicollier - glue.
Buy, Altair - Solo - skin.
<travel>
Sell/Buy, Sanuma - Dunyach - meat.
Buy, Lave - Lave - brandy.
Buy, Leesti - George Lucas - milk, evil juice.
Buy, Diso - Shinfnalport - corn.
<travel>
Sell, Wolf 1301 - Saunder's Dive - to restart the tour again
.
Makes about $750k at each end. Really nice time to $ ratio. And with the DB Expl's big fuel tank, I don't have to stop for fuel :D

Thanks again CMDR Chance-. Godspeed o7:)

Also remember that some rares are still considered illicit cargo in some areas.

For instance Leesti Evil Juice is, I think, prohibited in Corporate stations.

So you have to bear that in mind when dropping off/picking up cargo during your route.

Noticed the illicit cargo notice pop up a few times, but I failed to note what the system type was. I'll deffinatly keep a look out in the future!

Think everybody has run rares at some point in their Elite career path, I used to make little graphics for myself for various runs based on info found around the community. This is one I used for a while when I ran rares in an ASP, 178 Max tons for the route, purple texts are buys, red texts are sells, numbers in the circles are the total rares you are allowed per run of that type, numbers on the lines are distances. Start at Leesti, if you have a smaller cargo capacity you can skip some stops or just take that as an advantage of not having to wait for them to res-pawn until you get max capacity.

Ello there CMDR Tetra!:D
I hope you do not mind but im totally going to steal that graphic!
As I plan to eventually get an Asp, this will totally save me having to formulate a new route.
From myself and the others who may use this, Thank you!;)
