News Rare Goods Competition: Results

Brett C

Frontier
Hi all,

Thanks to everyone who submitted their rare goods ideas to us here at Frontier. There were many great ideas sent to us, we were able to narrow it down to just a select few as seen by the poll here.

Without further delay, we have selected the top two winners of the rare good competition poll as selected from your votes!

In second place, we have the Sothis Crystalline Gold.
Name of Rare Good: Sothis Crystalline Gold

Short Description: When gold is exposed to the rare gas coming from thermal vents on the sea beds of the twin Earth like planets Sothis A5 and Sothis A6 it forms into a previously unseen crystalline structure unlike other crystalline golds. Scientist and Engineers are only just beginning to discover the varied technological uses for this rare form of gold due to its unique lattice. Sirius Corp are worried about possible 'hostile takeovers' of their far flung colony system.

System & Starport: Sothis - Newholm Station

Means to Create: X tonnes of Gold

In first place, we have The Hutton Mug.

Name of Rare Good: The Hutton Mug

Short Description: Delivered over vast distances by those in search of a profit, the Hutton Mug is only sold to commanders who make the painfully long journey to Hutton Orbital. Made from the salvaged frame shift drive plates of ships that run out of fuel before reaching the station, this is purely a vanity item commemorating the epic journey. Its value lies in its rarity and latent frameshift energies keeping your drink that little bit warmer for the journey. Availability: 1t. Smashing.

System & Starport: Hutton Orbital, Alpha Centauri

Means to Create: Collect and deliver x tonnes of Scrap/Black Boxes (basically, any salvage) to Hutton Orbital

Again, congratulations to our two winners - your rare goods content will be in the game soon!

Not what I voted for but definitely 2 awesome ideas : thanks to everyone who participated, GG to the winners, thanks FD !

I haven't been following this competition but doesn't Hutton Orbital already have a rare good?

I thought one of the eligibility criteria was that no current rares are from that place?

Fred, politely and with respect, give it a rest. This issue has been discussed exhaustively in the other threads.

Thanks, Ben

It wasn't a hard rule, more like a quideline, it seems.

People and FDEV have spoken!

Congratulations to both winners, well done. :)

Hope the community goals for making them will be always active, so everyone can go and fetch their Mug & fill it with Crystalline Gold - THE way to keep your Leestian Evil Juice in perfect drinking temperature. ;)

Do you have a definition of "soon" in this case or is it a Michael Brookes "sooooon". Just wanting to plan making my way to the right part of the Galaxy to help out with The Hutton Mug community goal. It's going to require some commitment from the community to do the Hutton Run multiple times so planning will be key.

Would be good to know if this will be in 1 or 2 weeks, or 1 or 2 months kind of time frame?

Yes it seems to have been a guideline and it seems to have irritated people on both sides which you can see in the replies. For the life of me I cannot see why, its only a game...

Ben, I feel you might want to let it go. The Mug got 41% of the votes and as a community activity going with the community seems like a good idea.

They added the second place rare item. Should that now be removed as they wasn't in the published rules?

Vargersons Platypus wasn't robbed; it just wasn't supported by the community. Maybe they will run a similar completion in the future and you can try again then.

Yeh. Said my bit. The mug will make many players happy and that is very very important.

I voted for the gold and might have voted for the mug if I felt it was inside the rules and teh gold wasnt a better option for all.

Ben, we've already done this to death... accept the result with a little grace and remember that it was a democratic vote. Also remember that other locations also have more than one rare good...

Pleased to see both rare goods get a chance... as someone else said, hopefully more will follow in time...

Woohoo and thanks all who voted for the Mug! (Well done to the Gold as well and thanks to Frontier for trying to appease any naysayers!)

Personally speaking - darnit, I was hoping for the peppers. Love a good chilli.

I have my fingers crossed that any CG doesn't start until after the 1st as I'm not back in front of the game until then, but if it does, then I'm relying on you all to get it off to a good start.

Just remember, everyone: Hutton Orbital is nearly a quarter of a light-year from the jump-in point. It takes at least an hour, closer to two, to get there in Supercruise. Pay attention to your fuel tank and the hourly fuel consumption from your power draw--your stock Freewinder will NOT make this trip after jumping in.

The Fuel Rats stand ready to assist, but I'm sure I'm not overstepping myself to say that we'd rather see people fly smart and only take the journey if they're sure they can make it.

People on the internet can find anything to moan about...

FDev kindly added two rares - the top voted (which bent the guideline), and the second highest voted (which followed the rules fully) - and choosing to bend their other rule, to ensure that the popular votes won and kept the player majority happy:
After hundreds of entries we’ve narrowed it down to the final 7 and now we place the decision back in your hands to tell us which rare good should go into game.
We now have two player created CGs to play for :)

Vargerson Platypus was robbed!
No, it finished 3rd out of a race to find a winner.

Pot to Kettle, no? ;)

I think I'll be generous. A round of broken records to all who need 'em! :D

Tea pot Sir!

I'm really happy we got two winners and that loads of players will have stuff that makes them happy and no one loses out.

I can be a terrible wind up merchant but also such a bore when a joke just goes on and on and take so seriously. One just has to keep going. A bit of mug
