Relevant for version 1.02.
The change log for version 1.02 had the following line:
- After yet another discussion with the rare commodity producers, Commanders should now be eligible to only purchase rare goods up to their own personal allocation, instead of buying everybody else's ration as well.
The wording leads me to believe that each player is allocated a limited amount. For the sake of argument let us say that the number is 20 tonnes.
So - if you logged out of 1.01 with 50 tonnes of rares in your cargo hold, you will never see it offered in the station. However, if you don't have a rare good in your hold, and you arrive at a station that makes 5 tonnes/update, you would get four update cycles (provided you buy the five tonnes each update) and then you would get no more until you have offloaded them.
The 20 tonnes number is not based on anything solid, it's just there as a place holder.
