Rare VS Normal trade routes. (need some help)

Im fairly new at the game, and i was gaining some info about rare trades.

They say its profitable, but, i seriously dont see the benifits of rare trading.

Ive done a loop, made me 1.2 million in a hour. Its nice sure.. But....

this is much easier, and faster, i can do 2 of these runs in one hour.. Its just legal trade, low risk, no waiting time.

Is rare trading only really interresting if you running a fast ship with low cargo space?

yes, this. and if you want to see the galaxy. or explore in between in the bubble. i did a lot of rare trading for a change.

Alright, thank you.

Ill keep my outfitted Cobra for Rare / Bounty Hunting. And for a quick buck ill use my Type 6.

Now i need a ship for mining, also want to check that business out..

It really depends on how you like to play the game. If you like to play the game fast, no waiting time, no risk, then yes, it is much more "interesting" to find a trade route with no other players and keep doing the same thing again and again.

Rare trading loops (and other regular loops such Centum Imperialis and Silk Road) are mostly done for variety and increased risk for those who find that type of game interesting.

My way of playing the game is to play it so other Open players can pirate the heck out of me. It adds to the game's monotonous handling (the other day I accidentally bouncing and crashed my unshielded smuggler Hauler into a player FdL while docking. That was quite suprising, and fun).

Yes, i understand, im totally in the role playing aswell..

But i want to have some cash in my pockets to make sure i have a future in Elite.. lol

As soon as i have a nice filled bankaccount. Ill take more risks.

Rare trading feels less grindy. I tended to do a quick rare circuit every so often between doing other things. But if you're happy to grind out a repetitive trade run then that's generally more Cr/Hr if that's your thing.

yeah, sure. This is just the thing: with a filled up bank account you are really not taking any big risks :)

Lol.. well, not really my thing, but i do so much want that Python, or maybe even an Adaconda.. As soon as i have one of those, ill go hit the unexplored again..

Actually I believe rare trading ups the Rank level more than regular goods. But maybe it was just a coincidence. I did a 800Ly rare run and came back over half way to elite level after I sold my Rares.

The big reason I went into rare trades was to see more of the galaxy. But then I started having trouble getting any amount of rares to trade and the time spent trading rares started taking MUCH longer. So, I switched back to normal commodity trading. If I sit down for a solid hour of trading normals, I can make about 2mil. That is better than my best hour of trading rares.
The only downside to trading normal stuff is that my route is literally from Point A to Point B and back. It gets boring and very repetitive. These are two things that I do not like. But I need creds to buy a larger ship and then I can do long distance trade routes.

You can do both, I used to run a rares route with over 200 stops, never more than 50t of rares at one time and no waiting, I had side trades to do while the rares respawned, and then off to the next destination.

Made it to Entrepreneur doing that, didnt feel like a grind and I got around all human space, trading every 30-60ly on the way. Loops wont make as much money, and grinding is about equal but very boring.

Of course I had to invest a lot of time in the planning, but thats most of the fun in trading. Loops and Grinds are for the unimaginative and induce burnout IMO. My "Grand Tour" was much more fun, I was going to post it up as a "lonely galaxy" style guide, then PP and the new AI gotme back into combat instead.

Totally understand this after yesterdays grind.. never again.

did a 2 hour A-->B-->A loop.. gave me my 4 mill credits i needed though, but never again.

Now i do a multihop avoid loop, now i litteraly travel the Univers to stations i never though i would see them.. This is more fun, MUCH more fun!.. Had to get used to go away form "Home" though. Gonna miss 59Virginis..

I got out of my cobra back in the fall and traded up to a loaded Asp by trading Rares- It took me 2 days. Before that i was struggling to make 100k in the cobra- then I learned about Rares and headed over to Lave area- Then traded rares in my Asp and made over 100,000,000 in a couple weeks playing a few hours a day. Rares are the best and fasted and most rewarding way to make the cash you need so you don't care about the cash anymore. :) Hopefully there will be another system bonus like the Diso one that last a long time- I'm sure a lot of people used that and are now tooling around in Anacondas
