Rarer lucrative mining oportunities?

So i do like the whole core mining changes but i think one more change could make mining extra interesting.
VERY rare minerals/crystals that are worth insane amounts of credits.. perhaps 10x the payout of void opals but 10x rarer (and perhaps they could have other gameplay incentives) but these would run out very quickly in the bubble and you would have to travel further and further afield to find them.
Eventually leading to some players setting out on exploration trips to hunt down these incredibly rare minerals. This idea has been brought about by watching red dwarf in my youth, long range mining trips aboard large ships!
currently nearly all mining is done in the bubble and the only way i can think of getting some players to leave the bubble for their mining is if suddenly theres something out there thats even rarer and more special to find. there could be many types of these rarer commodities and it would give explorer/miners something extra to do other than scanning and looking at things.
In no way would i want this to become the "meta" ie: more lucrative than just regular mining.. but just knowing that if you travel out there and get very lucky you could come home with potentially more money than if you spent hours grinding in the usual way.

Yep, something like that I expected when the Mining Update was announced.

Deep Space gold rushes, mining ELITE's own version of "Unobtanium", requiring Deep Space Exploration and Prospecting for later exploitation.
Didn't quite work out, I never had to move more than ~20LY from home to mine anything the Game offers. Within 40LY I already have more Void Opal Hotspots than I could ever mine.

It'd have to be valuable enough to warrant leaving the bubble and head out 500+LY in a LongRange Mining rig and return with a really big haul worth the effort.
During Exploration, I always found it disappointing to map huge Rings - only to see "yeah, exactly like right at home".

It's a good idea, and I have been an advocate for really rare stuff to find on the exploration side as well, however the continued complaints at how hard Lagrange clouds and NSP's are to find indicates that the moment this was implemented the forum would get flooded by complaints about it and urging FDEV to make them easier to find/mine, so it seems pretty pointless.

Personally I would be happy to have just a few locations scattered through the galaxy where otherwise impossible to find stuff was available and of you found it and kept it secret good on you, but it's simply not going to work I am afraid.

i agree if they made them too rare it might annoy people.. but honestly it wouldnt bother me.. the more amount of rare things to find in the game the better.. as long as theres a method to finding them i dont think it would be too annoying. perhaps they would only spawn in the rings of specific types of planets (perhaps something like helium rich gas giants.. not super rare.. but rare enough) and then once youve scanned the ring you find a regular unobtanium hotspot but theres only one core per ring that would give you this material. so you feel you've found something rare but then have to move on to find more. and the price would have to match the rarity.

It seems counter-intuitive for a game developer though to create content that entices players to leave the main playground. Who will the murder hobos use as entertainment?

The murder hobos could still find targets, but they would need to work for them. Since they can no longer go to their targets, they need to make their targets come to them. The simplest way to do this is as follows:
  • Find a location that contains rare minerals
  • Go to said location in a murder lance (or any other PvP ship)
  • Post the location online (reddit, forums, etc...)
  • KIll anyone who shows up
This method would probably result in having paper-thin mining builds show up within the hour, and would likely continue have new targets appear for the rest of the day (maybe two) depending on the rarity of the minerals in question. The best part is, most of the PvP-savvy players would realize that it's a trap, so you would likely only get players who are ideal targets (less skilled, squishier ships, etc...).

personally i think theres enough murder locations in the game lol im talking stuff for people who actually want to roleplay as gold miners.. something that might take a long time but eventually pays off with enough skill and luck.
