Rares no longer being stocked????

If it stops the ridiculous practice of buy 10, wait 15 minutes, refresh and buy 10 more, I'm all for it. Play the game, don't exploit it. You're not supposed to "finish" the game in 4 days.

i suggest you play the way you want to and stop tellin others how to,respectfully.

no each type of rare commodities seems to have it's own capped amount. Zaonce - Leathery eggs = 1 other more...

i'll have to test that tonight again. From my previous post I could only from 18 in total in eight hours of play. After that it was zero rares in any station I went to. I logged on this morning and ther was only 1 rare item in the station. Presuming that everyone has the same allowance and seeing others getting more, I'll have to run the same system that had the most output a few times than what I was doing, running from one to the next to the next.

Has anyone figured out the timer on the cap? Does it reset after x hours? Does it just add +1 per x hours after cap? It would be good to know.

Have any of you considered that other players may be effecting the level of stocks.

For example I picked up 15 of a rare. Did some missions then 5 had spawned did some more then there was 0 which was odd. Did some more missions and again 0. When I left the station I noticed another player.... Hmmm so did some more missions and on the way back saw the other player again in sc. So I interdicted him cargo scanned and guess what. So I quickly jumped and beat him to the station and gues what 10 rares back in stock.

You are competing against others so the amounts will vary.

It really doesn't seem that bad in terms of slowing overall cash cowing rares. I have a triangle of stations that I make a circuit on about 150ly apart. Each place stocks between 10-19 rares items whenever I swing by. I can make 200-400k per trip and that is 40 minutes of travel time minimum if there are no incidents. Last night I wasted one trip of 40min and crashed into the rear of a station with no shields and lost 17 tons of rare cargo, 20k in insurance and since I had not stopped at any stations along the way was respawned 160ly back to the station I bought the 17 tons or rares from in the first place.
Logged off for the night from Elite Time Sink and played some thing more fun until the desire to make another 40 min space hop sim journey hit me tonight. I made one run...got my 350k, upgraded some modules and logged off for the night. Essentially with the way time and progress are now gated in a sense..I don't see myself playing this game for more than an hour a day at best.

@Felty

Why do you still persist on this forum?

If they made the ships cheaper like Beta it would be far too easy to get every ship. As it stands it's far to easy.

This is a new change, I don't like it.

As it stands it's far too easy? Do you mean progression is too fast?

I read this a while back in the thread: Elite: Dangerous 1.02 change log

For pity's sake, Michael, you're talking like a politician trying to be re-elected. Just tell us what the number is, in hours, from your design document. If you don't have a number, tell us that, too.

750 hours at one hour a day is over 2 YEARS of casual play, to get an Anaconda, using your hypothetical numbers. If that's within the realm of possible & reasonable, I'm very concerned, myself.

So if currently its "probably around 6 months" and he expects around 3 months then progression speed is actually half what it should be.

I must ask, because I can't really find answer anywhere, but how does those rare commodities are working ? I never really did commerce before but I want to give it a try now.

Can we find those rare in any station ? how can we know where to sell them too ?

My first experience of rare items yesterday, nine chateau something or other. had a great time transporting them as far as i could in the opposite direction to maximise profit and do some good exploration at the same time in my cobra and familiarise myself with fuel scooping. probably only made about 100k all evening but great fun. it got me away from my home systems trading scenario. dont think it would have been so enjoyable just hanging around waiting for some more but thats ok if its what you want to do...

Hi supermarco,

Rare commodities are specific to a station in the universe. There is only a few dozen of stations producing those. Example : Lavian Brandy is only sold at Lave Station in the Lave system. Onion Head is only sold at Havestport in Kappa Fornacis. etc.

There is a complete list there : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63119&p=1066107&viewfull=1#post1066107

Rare commodities can exported at any station but the price depends on the distance to the producing station. To be worth any real profit they must be hauled at great distance. The profit you make out of them peak at 140LY away. You can make 14 000-18 000 cr profit per tonne if you go up 140 LY. (see chart in the other post)

Also each pilot has a maximum of a certain rare commodity allowed. Example : Leathery Eggs (sold at Ridley Scott in Zaonce) have a maximum of 1 allowed. You won't be sold more.

When you dock at a rare commodity station you can identify the rare commodity because they are highlighted in yellow text. The amount available at station varies. It can be lower than you max amount if the max amount is 15 ton, you may see only 5 or 8 when you dock. Pick them up. Some more will respawn later in 10-15 min. The amount that respawn is random. If you see nothing (instead of 0 low supply) in the supply column is that you have attained your max limit. waiting for more to spawn is useless.

My strategy is to find a few station selling rare commodity in the same sector (withing 60ly of each other). I hop from system to system collecting rare commodities until I have made 2-3 rounds picking up what repawn until my hold is full or I have maxed out my allowed maximum. Remember is if you an empty supply column you will not get anther batch until you sell what you have now.

Then I make the long 140 Ly journey to sell my cargo hold full of rare commodities.

I have an ASP with 72 of cargo space. Each time I do that I make around 1 300 000 credits in profit. It takes around 2-3 hours to do so.

Usually I plan my route to end up in another sector with a bunch of rare commodities within 50ly of each other then I hop from one station to the other gathering rares again... then 140ly again... :D

We are capped at a max amount of tons of a given type of rare. Example in Zaonce the max I could buy was 1 "leathery egg".
You know when you have reached your cap when you see no info in the supply column for the rare item. If it says 0 you can come back later and you may get a little more supply.

The strategy I used yesterday was doing a milk run of 5 rare commodity systems within a few light years (exemple : Lave, Diso, Errere, Zaonce and.. can't remember the other). I pick up a what is available then move to the other system, by the time I do one pass when I come back there are fresh supply. When I reach my cap (no supply) which was about 60 tons for the Lave sector, then I move 140 LY away to another bunch of rare systems. You can repeat from there.

Did 1M profit yesterday that way in 2-3 hours. Did some fighting also so I was not "optimal" timewise but decent rev for investement... better than hauling scraps.

I would like the quantity available to be improved a little bit however....
thanks...i was looking for this explanation more than 2 hours....this forum is like firework (colorful with no order) +1
