The name of a material has not relevant to it rarity, just game lore. This is an issue when people are seeing elements or materials which seem common in real life.
I'm bringing this up because of the many post about, 'Its not that rare, it should be in the market place'. Let me try to explain ;
yttrium, a little bit rare in game, but really we should see it all over space, so why is it not in market places. First thing to remember, its just a name for a /requirement marker/, it could be called anything (Elmt_nameHolder_05). But the way its has been named is frustrating to people that wonder why it so hard to get hold of.
A simple way to explain its rarity would be to say you are trying to get hold of yttrium 88 and not yttrium 89. 89 is stable and 88 has a half life of 106.6 days.
But then we could say, 'can't we make yttrium 88, its the future, can't we put 89 in some sort of magic box?'
well I guess so, i don't know the physics needed, but it still the same issue of its only a name, and the name is not meant to set the properties of /requirement marker/.
I don't think FD made a mistake here (in the case of yttrium), because it would just get to messy to keep the /requirement marker/ and have nice looking game law.
- Collette(collect) abundant yttrium 89
- Take it to a lab, with some other stuff you may need, and pay some cash. then you have your yttrium 88.
This would make it a bit long winded, and now you have 2 material for the same purpose.
So, bare in mind when looking at a rare material or commodity, unless it a huge naming mistake (carrots being set as super rare, for example), its just the name of a /requirement marker/, and maybe the name needs changing not the rarity.
hope this cleared things up
*Disclaimer* not saying all drop rates are correct and that nothing needs to change, i'm only addressing the naming issue vs rarity.
