Raw Materials

Hi All. I am trying to obtain materials so I can upgrade my FSD on my ships. I have obtained a blueprint from farseer already. I need Arsenic , Phosphrus and Magenese. My location is Barathaona Kregel Hub. My ships are ASP explorer jump range 25.53, Python jump range 23,89 and Anaconda jump range 24,54. I am playing in Elite Dangerous Horizons.
I have googled and watched many vids but not found any definative answers to my quires. Hence this link. So I was hoping the community could provide answers and recommendations to the following questions please.

1) I am unable to plot a route to Hip 36601. I have no permits. I presume I do not have sufficient jump range. I do not mind trying to get there bit by bit. However will I ever be able to get there in my ASP or Python?
2) Is Hip 36601 still active since latest updates?
3) What ship would be best recommended to go to Hip 36601?
4) I understand you can get raw materials with mission rewards, I have not found any in my travels. Can anyone recommend any ports where raw material missions are available?
5) I know you can go to a raw material trader to trade. Can anyone recommend planets/sites nearer my location to obtain enough materials to trade?
6) Will I be able to obtain experimental effects from Farseer on all my ships or only allowed one experimental effect?

Thanks for any advice received. CMDR BLUR

1.
There is a permit locked region in the way. First fly up some 200-300 Ly then plot again
2.
Should be nice farming in Horizon
3,
The one with a big jumprange. I dont like large ships for lots of landing. (dont forget the SRV)
4.
You can find them more easy by changing the view to show the mission rewards. Saying that.. Not sure you can get raw mats from missions. It is not a recommended method if it is.
5.
Places are everywhere but you will do a lot of searching (by srv) once at the shard sites you will see that the travel is worth it.
(I am going there too. You can come on my fleet carrier. Send me a friend request in game) (assuming you are in Live)
6.
Each module can get one experimental effect. No remote engineering for experimentals.

Hi GroG79
Thanks for your reply and offer of a lift. I would like to take up your offer of a lift but won't be available to link up and send a friend request until next Monday afternoon at about 17.00hrs BST. I usually play in solo while collecting materials, but are willing to play live for lift. Is this ok with you? Will you want anything for lift?
Question 6) Did you mean each ship can get one experimental effect?
Thanks

You can also get raw mats like phosphorus, manganese, nickel, iron, carbon and others from asteroid mining. But it will take a long time. Also don’t forget that even though you have a small distance jumping ship, you can honk every system you enter on your way out and back earning money for your cartological information.
My first trip out was in an Asp Explorer with a small jump range. Seemed like it took forever! But was well worth the effort in the long run.

Tip: After you leave for the shards, don’t dock in any stations or fleet carriers on your trip to the shards. After filling up all your shards quotas fly your ship into a sun. After your ship explodes you will be regenerated at the last station you docked at with your ship (BE SURE TO HAVE REBUY INSURANCE BEFORE YOU DO THIS) . This saves you the trip back and is a quick way home. I never did it but others have done it. I don’t recommend it but wanted you to be aware of it.

Live and 'open/solo' are not the same thing.

I assume you play in Live, not legacy. My FC is parked forever in legacy

You can find my FC here: https://inara.cz/elite/cmdr-fleetcarrier/183616/184004/

Question 6) Did you mean each ship can get one experimental effect?

Most individual modules (weapons, shields, thrusters, scanners etc) can be engineered, they can have 1 engineered effect (up to grade 5 if you keep spending mats) and most can also have 1 experimental effect. So Felicity Farseer could upgrade your Frame Shift Drive with Increased Range (up to grade 5) and also apply the Mass Manager experimental effect.

You can't get the mats you spend back, so it's worth buying the optimal vanilla module first before you start engineering it. It's not very good value to upgrade a class E Frame Shift drive to Grade 5 engineering for example - you'd get much more benefit by buying a class A FSD first and starting from there.

if you are looking for mats just for certain upgrade you might as well go to kappa 1 volantis for brain trees, which is a bit closer than crystal shards. brain trees will drop you selenium, thats the only g4 mat that isnt up in 36601 and you can crosstrade from it just as well.

Selenium is in the bubble!

First, this is in Legacy Horizons. LHS 417 9 E A. Sites: 17, 19, 22, 23, 25, and 26 (other sites may have it as well). You can max out in very little time, then it’s just a trip to a material trader and BOOM! You’ve got tons of raw mats!!!

Hi Galewulf Thanks for reply. Do you land on the icy body and collect in SRV? Sorry for silly question but I'm a newbee. Thanks CMDR BLUR

Never gotten a raw mat as a mission reward, but there are some in EDO in racks at certain crash or threat sites. Just cut them free and scoop up with the SRV. Mostly I've found lower end stuff but anything helps. Also, some missions take you to planets with geological features. Just make it a mission followed by mat gathering. HIP 36601 is fast and easy, and you should be able to get there. I like to use a Diamondback for longer travel but the Asp works well also. Hitch a ride on a carrier. You can avoid the long supercruise time that way as they can park at the far end of the system. Also mining collects lower end raw mats, plenty to be honest. You can trade up but it's tedious. Best to hit the sites.

Yes that’s exactly what you do. You can also shoot cobbles which look like a clump of rocks and get minerals too. Basically if your Srv shows a target then that’s what you shoot and pickup with the srv’s cargo scoop.
