Hardware & Technical Razor Tiamat 7.1 is crap, and I'd tell you why.

So I've had this headset for 2 years and I really like it in the beginning.
Then my Mic stopped working, it was never great but kind of ok, then one day the ear cushions started to peel, and after 6 month they are totally wrecked.

The Ear cushions simply deteriorated and you can't get any replacements from Razor. It all was starting out fine but ended like a nightmare. I'm now
trying to repair them, and found some replacement ear pads on Amazon, however the Mic can't be replaced and to replace it I would need to cut the cable inside the headset.

I now am looking at the hyperx cloud 2 headset, they seem ok, and the build quality should be a lot better than Razors cheep garbage.

Any recommendations for a good headset, that have a good Mic. (one that doesn't make you sound like Mickey mouse)

Well it really depends on the pricetag. I'm currently using a Logitech G 230, mostly because of the USB soundcard, which sounds okay for what I'm using it. Sennheiser also make pretty decent headsets although they can be a bit pricier.

If you want good playback and recording I'd either recommend something like a Shure BRH440M but they usually cost $200+.

You could also pickup a standalone Headphone like a Sennheiser HD598 and use a clip mic from Shure or a ModMic.

Generally provided you have the budget you're better off buying professional audio gear instead of buying "pro gamer" stuff unless it's coming from or made by a company that specializes in professional audio gear, gaming gear companies just tend to lack experience outside of the classic input peripherals.

Yeah I guess that is the way to do it, the ModMic get really good reviews so I'm going to try that one out. I will try to repair that Razor garbage, and replace the Mic with the modmic.
Thank you for the suggestions!

I have never had good luck with Razor products.

This was compounded when I watched a Street Fighter live competition event and for the second year running a Razor controller failure resulted in big issues for a competitor. Near disqualification, there are strict rules around how long you can pause a game for in the tournament (we are talking minutes), luckily Madcatz were on hand with a suitable replacement and saved the day, irony being Razor were actually the event sponsor.

Trouble is it's an expensive brand, when you pay above the norm you expect whatever it is to be reliable and good quality, I don't feel you get this. As someone who hasn't got money to burn but thinks it's often worth paying a bit more for something decent, I would not take the risk on Razor.

Well, lesson learn. I have a keyboard and mouse and the headset from Razor, going to shift some of it away as its not living up to the price. The keyboard is really solid and I could buy that one again, but the mouse is not that great, and the headset is just plain a rip-off. I can live with the some of the plastic stuff used, but Mic not working after 1.5 years and peeling earpads is just horrible quality.
