Re: Captains log... i must be mad

Good luck with saving up for the ship, if you are still not at the ranks required for your dream ship(s) its pretty easay to gain rank nowadays, basically look for missions from factions aligned with the appropriate superpower, run the mission and when you hand it in as completed, from the rewards packages on offer, select the one with the most rep "+'s" ie: +++ or +++++ rather than more credits and only one or no rep(utation) +'s. Eventually you will get to 100% of your current rank, and keep an eye out for missions mentioning Navy, as in Federal Navy delivery contract, or Imperial Navy assassination etc.

Note: If you go for missions that give tons of rep, yeah, you'll eventually rank up to where you're allowed to buy the cutter, except you won't actually HAVE the money to buy it with.

BTW, did anyone mention how expensive it is to properly outfit this thing? 😱

This can't be understated. I have 12 ships and 3.5 billion total assets. Of that 500 million is credits and 1 billion is the Cutter.

Its a balancing act, working missions for rep but lower credit remuneration, versus building the coffers to be able to buy and outfit the thing you are pursuing rank to gain access to. The OP is obviously not a noob, so I didn't want to patronize them with such advice, but for the sakes of any other less experienced players reading this thread for guidance...

"Top tip for when working to obtain a rank locked ship, always take the high rep + missions, unless the credit rewards are silly money, in which case take the money, as you will need loads of credits to fully outfit any rank locked ship and get the best reward for your efforts of unlockng it." Also worth noting that doing donation missions ar worth a ton of rep, usually 5+'s butobviously cost a lot, typically a million. You can "dance" between focussing on financially rewarding missions for a faction and donating a decent percentage of your earnings to a suitably superpower aligned faction. Also donation of cargo missions offer the same sort of rep reward, but cost less money, however they do require to go and get the cargo, if going down that route, make sure you accept missions looking for market purchasable cargo. Would be a proper pain if you accepted a donation mission for something like 139 units of modular terminals, which are mission reward only.

In the grand scheme of things I'm still very much a noob. So much to learn. Each and everytime I log in there is something new. I need to increase my estimate on getting a cutter from a few months to a year or more. I'm still unsure on my mining ad my skill set is at absolute novice. I've gotten a lot of good advice on my blurdication post about correct firing groups and the right kit for the job but each time I set my goal of mining I end up doing missions and I'll start the mining next time only to find another high paying courier job

I got top the Hutton orbital. Omg there isn't a ship yard. My repair bill for that journey was 328,000 squidly doos of integrity

Don't hurry on your quest to get the Cutter. Enjoy the ride. After all Cutter is just another ship.

And... erm... I see you're playing on PC. There are easier and better ways to take a screenshot...
Elite has that function under F10.

Ah Flux! I've only just noticed I'm the only imperial in this thread about lusting after imperial ships. If I had noticed the OP was a fed I'd have sent them on a proper wild goose chase ;-)

Having said that, y'all know about the ridiculously overpaid combat missions beside beagle point? Thing is there are no ship yards or outfitting there so you need to jump numerous times in your heaviest tankiest combat builds to get in on that action.

SCA engaged ?

You're losing some 25% or more on the trip that's otherwise "only" 85 Minutes at full Throttle ;)

I didn't know about the Hutton trip and took the the mission to go there last night.

I was wondering why transporting a couple tons of medical supplies paid over 2 million.

Oh I found out 🤪
