Am I wrong when I say that you cant duplicate items when using the selection tool? I have a fence that I made and I want to add it to the other side WITHOUT having to do it all over again. The only choices I get are: Blueprint, move, advanced move and delete.

Is my only choice to save it as a blueprint?

If those are only objects, make a wall underground. With the selection tool you can sample your fence with the wall.
And now select the new building you've created and press ctrl + D or ctrl + X. Now you duplicate the building, which is in your case the fence
