Re: Meet N Greet

My fellow CMDRs.. I have yet to try out any of the interactive tools the game has to offer like joining squadrons etc..

My question is.. If I joined a team of players that were all on a mission to supply cargo for a station repair etc.. If I'm 1000ly away from where the station is would I have to fly the distance to meet up or does my ship arrive in convoy when I load out. I've not done anything yet or even tried. A very quick guide from experience on here would be great. There are some huge payouts for missions that involve squadrons.

Unless you join another player's ship via Multi-crew, you gotta fly to get there. Multicrew is not the same as winging up and you get severely gimped in terms of what you earn while acting as someone else's crew, but that's the only way to 'insta port' to other people.

I understand. I take it then that squadrons etc have to arrange to stay within close range of each other if they are to perform missions as a Squadron. Can you be an explorer and part of a Squadron or do you need to decide and live with it.

You absolutely can be an explorer and still be part of a squadron. Not in a squadron myself, but I see signatures here that seem to indicate some squadrons primary purpose is exploration. Being in a squadron is not the same as being in a wing though.

If and when you want to engage in wing activities with your squadron mates, some kind of preplanning would be needed so that everyone can converge. Either that or some time for everyone to get to the same place.

I'll need to do some more investigating into this. It all sounds fantastic but my skill set is currently lacking on what I'm learning is a grand scale. If the scale were 1-1.000.000.000 I'm about.......... 1

I'm at about 25 on that scale, so hopefully someone higher than that shows up to offer you some tips and advice too.
One of life's lessons.. There will always be somewhere who knows more than yourself. Unless your my 8 year old son who knows that deceptacons are real and you won't tell me different daddy

Guys, you seem to be mixing up a couple of things here. I will try to sort it out and keep it brief:
1. Multicrew is the ability to join another player on his ship, while your own is kept safe. It works over any distance, as you basically teleport into the others ship as a hologram. You will get some Cr for this, but this will be limited by your ranking difference. It is fun and you can learn some things from others, but it tends to be buggy.

2. A Wing is the ability to join with up to 3 other players with each staying in their ship, bounty hunting or doing missions together. Special wing missions can be shared and everybody will get the full reward. As a wing member, no? or little contribution to the mission is needed to be eligible for the reward. But at least in order to collect it, you have to travel in your ship to the mission giving system. It is a good way to gift new CMDRs a lot of money, as rewards in wing missions can be in the million Cr range and reward sharing is not limited by player ranks.

3. A Friend status enables you to see the other player on the galaxy map, send each other messages over any distance and have preferred instancing. All theses things are also true for Wing status, but friends cannot share rewards to each other. In contrast to Wing/Multicrew, the friend status is not limited in terms of how many can friend up and is permanent from game session to game session. Be careful with whose friend request you accept, as they might me player hunters looking for prey.

4. A Squadron is Elite's version of mini guilds and the larger/permanent version of a wing. No reward sharing without forming a wing in addition to the squadron. The advantage of a squadron is information sharing, galaxy wide communication and organization. It is one way to organize larger number of players for BGS (Back Ground Simulation) activities. As Squadrons are limited and came late, many player groups prefer external tools (e.g. Discord) for organization. Joining a squadron can give you in-game trophies (holo bobble heads), if the squadron is doing really well.

As the OP indicated a shared wing (2.) mission: unfortunately, you have to go there to get the reward.
