RE: TIP OFF - Co-ordinates

had a couple of tip offs in the messages after rank grinding for the empire.. it says you need to fly to such and such co-ordinates..

how do you program in co-ordinates as a destination?

please help..

You don't, sadly, you have to eyeball them at the lower right of the HUD. Assuming you're talking about planetary lat/long.

If you're on PC, you can use E.D.I.S.O.N.

If you're on a console, be a good boy scout and learn how to find your way:

It's not that hard to navigate manually.

Just get into orbit then use the compass to fly North/South until one number's right then fly East/West until the other number's nearly right.
The glide down from orbit might mean you have to fly back the way you came for a few km but it shouldn't be far.

Just make sure you pay attention to whether a coordinate has a "-" symbol at the start.
"-171.12" is a completely different coordinate to "171.12", for example.

Are these tip-offs ever worth it though? Do any ever pay in the millions of credits?

It's ages since I've done one but shortly after 3.3 dropped I did one which paid something like Cr150m, IIRC.
Not megabucks, but a decent payout for a little adventure, IMO.
No idea if all tip-offs got buffed with 3.3 or whether I just got lucky, but some of 'em, at least, appear to pay quite well.

150MCr?!? Ok I am totally not ignoring these anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I've also seen plenty (prior to 3.3) that were a total waste of time.
It's just that the only one I've done since 3.3 happened to pay Cr150m (or whatever it was).

Also, rather weirdly, the tip-off was a crash site that turned out to have a bunch of iCutter and space-station parts lying around on the surface, which I'd never seen before.
Pretty sure FDev must've tweaked tip-offs in various ways for 3.3, hopefully including buffing the payments.

Depending on what the tip-off site is, you may be able to probe the planet with the DSS and get it to show up as a marker from that. Works for the ones I've found (including two I found by probing the planet without first getting the tip-off message, and getting lucky)

Otherwise just watch your heading and coordinates on the HUD:
0 = North = number goes up
180 = South = number goes down
90 = East = other number goes up
270 = West = other number goes down

It's generally easier to get the East/West number right first, then do North/South, though with a bit of practice you can line up both at once.

You fly around in orbital cruise randomly until you see something close and then you fine tune it in glide and regular flight.
Keep in mind sometimes the tip-off coordinates are reversed and support says that when this happens it's INTENTIONAL and part of the challenge of finding them.
