Re-visit voice comms

In the 1.2 beta, voice comms have become incredibly beneficial for communication in a wing. The microphone can be muted using a custom keybind in the control settings, but neither option is very useful. One is a toggle mute, but there is no clear indication if your microphone is actually muted or not. The icon telling you that the microphone is picking up what you're saying activates even if you've toggled to mute, so that others cannot hear you, but it still looks like they can. The other is a hold to mute, which is a little difficult when flying around.

So my suggestion, or suggestions, are these:
- Change the functionality to a push-to-talk, so rather than hold to mute, it's hold to broadcast, and leave the toggle option for those who don't like PTT;

- Or, sticking with the current system, have a small sound effect or visual notifier that you are not broadcasting when you've toggled mute. It could even be as simple as changing the colour of the soundwave pickup icon thing to a different colour.

It's entirely possible that I've misunderstood the current functionality in-game, in which case, disregard this post! I'm intrigued to find out if anyone else has had the same issue as I have.

I'm very much enjoying the 1.2 beta! Thanks for the continued hard work into this amazing game! :D

Sadly I haven't had the chance to play about with this properly in-game yet.

But if the current functionality is as you describe - I prefer your suggestion.

Have some rep.

I'll try to reply again as the forums ate last nights comment!

From watching Neons stream I can see on his UI that your mic is muted Grimmy, I don't know if there's anything like that on the other end!

We certainly need more work on the voice comms, if XBOne users are to communicate with the rest of us then voice is pretty much the only feasible way to do so.

rep for this ..

although ED not a flight sim as such, an intuitive and somewhat realistic feeling comms UI
seems worth prioritising to me
