Re: Void Opal Shape

Twas a lucky night..i scanned the belt and found instantly a void Opal asteroid. Mined it. Moved on instantly found another. Mined it. Moved on and found another. 3 in a row without moving more than a couple of asteroids apart. After that I couldn't find another one for over an hour. The shape of the 3 asteroids were the same but after an hour of looking at other ones the same they were not void Opal ones. Has anyone else encountered this.

This is the shape you're looking for in Icy Rings (any Icy Cores, so works for Low Temp Diamonds just as well as for Void Opals etc., they're all bound to the same shape) :

135361

Single Ping :
135362

Double-Ping (Continous Pulse Wave Scanner pinging, causing inverted Colors on Cores for ~1sec), here revealing its Core.

You can often spot them by the way they light up nearby rocks, especially when they're hidden behind one. Another thing that may be a coincidence, but I also noticed it when prospecting for the high grade materials in the SRV, is that music comes when you get close, so if you hear the music, have a good look around. Has anybody else noticed that?

It's like crickets

I mined my first ever void opals this very evening. I was about to give up and log off having already prospected four duds. Only the second time I have laid charges and managed to clean out the asteroid. Avoided an interdiction on the way back of course and sold 'em quick for less than half the best price. Still made over 8 million though. Why am I feeling so pleased with myself?

The feeling you get when you sell them for top whack makes you feel a little fuzzy and then you go back for more.

I don't believe it's got much to do with the shape. I've spent hours blasting rocks of different shapes, and the only thing I've noted is that smooth rocks won't have cores. A lot of popcorn shaped rocks won't either. I think it's a lot more random than people think, as I can have an hour session where every other rock I hit has a core, followed by another hour of nothing.
