Has anyone yet had a chance to check out this project, Skylon and the Reaction engines they're developing in the UK. Could make the sequel to ED actually......real! 
It's an engine that uses compressed air sucked in through its intake to get into the upper atmosphere, then converts itself into a conventional rocket.
Seems like a pretty simple concept, but apparently the tech involved has taken a long time to R&D. Would be pretty awesome if you could purchase these in the elite universe when planetfall is is enabled.
