reactions and opinions on upcoming AX weapons?

Hi. ((haven't been here since the disaster that was update 13, but hearing update 14 actually doing something))
I wanted to see the reactions and opinions of people regarding the upcoming Gimballed AX Multi-Cannon AND the current incoming Modified Turreted AX Multi-Cannon

I bet its only like... 5% of the community that is thinking "Oh neat? lets see how they are when we get them?" or some variation of that.

I imagine 95% of the community's reactions are along the lines of "Gimablled Gauss?! what is fdev doing? And a modified turreted Gauss too? I'll just be able to AFK farm Hydras. This will ruin the game!"

Cause you know... these are people who just don't know that there is other weapons for AX hunting. They think its only Gauss. They don't even know that there is a remote release flak launcher.
And of those people I bet about 50% of them have never seen a thargoid in game, nevermind a hydra. Sure... they have seen videos of some really good ax pilots killing hydras but they never have even seen a thargoid in game.
Yet somehow they feel the need to complain that fdev adding gimballed and turreted gauss is bad for the game. Because they heard the "Gimballed AX weapon" part and just assumed Gauss. Even though Gauss was never mentioned and Fdev are not adding a gimballed gauss.

((I remember the last 3 years I've been trying to talk about things like a gimballed AX Multi-Cannons and/or a huge AX Multi-Cannon, but the community would always start screaming about how bad gimballed gauss is for the game and a huge gauss is even worse... yet I never mentioned gauss...))

TL : DR ?
Don't worry there is no gimballed gauss! you can go back to chatting on discord while never playing the game! Remember to have fun!

Where did you see that they're releasing a Gimballed version of the AX multicannon? While a lot of us would love to have that, all I've seen so far is the CG for the modified turreted AX multicannon.

"A gimballed AX multi-cannon is also scheduled, with a campaign to introduce this coming next week."

Thanks, I missed that line!

I really hope these are standard unlocks and not the "pay all these mats for each one you purchase" unlocks. For a few special things - that double engineered FSD (which has the side effect of generating more heat), the salvation modified guardian weapons, the expanded scan radius Planetary scanner - it's fine. But for the modified heatsinks (which you may need a TON of) or even more weapons... oh please, just stop! Those repeatable unlocks burn through way more materials, on each purchase, than standard engineering. It just adds more grind.

Its good youll just be able to buy them as these are meant to be "new" to AXI weapons still and youll land on mega ships to get them...

It also means fdev don't have to put tech brokers on mega ships as that takes them "Forever" to do...

Its human engineering versions not salvation engineering so the upgrades wont be as good as what salvation was able to do with his hand of god upgrades...

IF you had to get mats then there be no point as you just have to learn fixed instead and get guardian fixed weapons for mats...

My thoughts on the gimballed AX muti-cannon are probably the same as the devs when they decided no to do it all those years ago: In order to target hearts with them you have to scan the goid. In order to scan the goid you have to shove your ship up its cloaca and hold it there for a long time. Why bother. The fixed enhanced multi-cannons on the other hand...

TL;DR AX Enhanced Multi-Cannons [FIXED] are not bad.

I just tried the fixed enhanced multicannons today. I had been fishing for a solo cyclops encounter since last night. I finally got one today. In hindsight I should have gone to an old goid hunting location to try there, with a less aggressive type. Anyway, three size 3 and one size 2 plus a flack on my Mk2. Started by running and flacking the swarm, then I took out the first heart. It took about as long to exert and destroy the first heart as it would with three guardian gauss cannons with a couple misses like always for me. One thing I really liked was that I could start shooting her at 4000m. After the first heart she called in a swarm of scouts that I had to endure through the next 2 hearts. After the third heart she called in a medusa or basilisk. Got wrecked from 70% to 22% hull taking the last heart. Had to jet or die so I boosted like hell while contemplating whether I could finish her off through the entourage. She had 9% hull, I had 22%. I waited for her shield to pop swung around boosted straight at her through a swarm of scouts and 2 swarms of thargons. At 4200m I started the guns spinning, hosed her, clipped her on the way by, she exploded, I exploded, the game crashed to desktop.

My final thoughts are: If the cyclops didn't call in help I would have lost maybe 10% hull (of 4000 or so) which is not bad for me. I am not a good pilot. The multi cannons will be very great in a group situation, especially against stronger goids. Sustained fire will keep the regen in check and exert hearts while other pilots can manage their heat and snipe the hearts. I also wonder if I could exert and take out hearts from outside the goids firing range but that's a big ask from my stupid hands with FA off. Someone probably can though.

It would be good to have a way to make the t10 awesome for ax multicrew. I suggest non experimental ax mcs, or upping the limit, so that we can make the t10 specifically a crazy anti xeno fighter spitting gunboat.

Make ax multicrew even more chaotic and awesome than it is already :)

The AX turreted multi-cannons do very well against the Scouts. I figure the AX gimballed multi-cannons with a little more punch will make for faster kills. The fixed AX multi-cannons are a challenge staying on target with those fast moving Scouts. Still fixed weapons against small fast ships is great practice.

As for the fixed AX dumbfire missile rack? I don't know what they will bring to the fight. Maybe the missile CMDRs can advise.

The new enhanced version...Best/only way to take out an Orthrus interceptor for an easy 30mil credits. They don't get destroyed when entering a maelstrom system like guardian weapons do. No need to put pips to weapons with them so more pips available for System and Engines. Seem to work really well at exerting a heart.

As far as I've gathered, we'll need the new AX weapons in the mealstroms, right? The Guardian tech doesn't work there so... AX MCs it is I guess. Though, as already written, I see little point in gimballed version as you need to scan the interceptor.

I did some testing with the new upgraded AX MCs and I guess they work, though their effectiveness against interceptors still leaves a lot to be desired.
