ReactOS

Just wondering if anybody on here is using this open source operating software and if it works with this game.
Would be nice to ditch Windows and yes I have play with Linux before which great.

I played with ReactOS a bit, quite a while ago. It's been in an alpha state for almost three decades and progress has been pretty slow.

Since it's not fully compatible with it's NT 5.2 target, doesn't have x86-64 support, and can't run modern versions of DirectX, yet, it's almost certainly not going to be running any modern games, including Elite: Dangerous, any time soon.

Check back in fifteen years.

Because you're used to Windows, and just want to get away from the MS spyware.
Mint/Cinnamon, Mint/Mate and Ubuntu/Mate all exist. All three point to the same traditional desktop paradigm and all three are in production, not alpha. Besides, the target for ReactOS is Win7, with Windows server 2003(!) as the current development target. The use case for ReactOS is niche, to say the least.
Because you have some printer or usb gadget that's not fully supported by Linux, but comes with drivers that work in ReactOS.
Ditching Windows does come with a price (20+ year old printers included). Nevertheless, I wouldn't advise anyone new to Linux to install an "alpha quality operating system" (that's a quote from the ReactOS github readme). It will just colour their view of the capabilities of Linux, and encourage disengagement from free software. To put it another way, would you genuinely recommend ReactOS to a newcomer?
Because choice is good.
Yes, it is. Informed choices are better.

You're fighting straw men.

The OP's question was "Can I use ReactOS to play ED?" (paraphrasing, as in the following).
The answer given was "No, it's not ready yet."
That should've been end of discussion right there.

You then enter the discussion with "why would anyone want ReactOS?"
I give some reasons why people would want a (completed, properly usable) ReactOS.
You then argue "that's bogus, ReactOS isn't ready yet".

I can't see how you're adding anything useful to this discussion, and get the feeling you're just looking for a fight.

Can you? Probably not. I don't think Vulkan or DX11 have been implemented in ReactOS yet, so the game wouldn't support it.

Should you, even if it was possible? Depends. Are you looking to do this as a hobby project, or do you have other things that stop you from just using Linux?
