Real Stars that don't seem to be in the game.

Real Stars that don't seem to be in the game by the catalogue name. Is there a way to find these systems in the game? I read awhile ago that you could use the coordinates, but how would you do this in the game?

In real life, stars often have more than one "real name". So the first thing you need to do is check the SIMBAD star catalogue database to find out all the possible names of the star you're looking for.

Next, look up each name in the ED galaxy map search. See if any of the queries return a hit.

Failing this, it would mean that your star is not in ED. In the ED galaxy, most of the stars are procedurally-generated, with no correlation to any real-world star except by pure chance. So the only thing you can do to "find your star" is to find a procedurally-generated star with similar qualities (in terms of basic star type, distance, from Sol, and direction) to the one you are looking for, and unilaterally declare the real star and the ED star to be one and the same.

There are quite a lot of missing stars. Some, for the obvious that is; the sheer number of real stars in our galaxy :D ...other omissions are a bit strange, like several of the 20 largest known stars in the galaxy. However, like the above mentioned, use a search engine like Simbad. Search Simbad for the star you want to find in-game and scroll down to the "Identifiers" section to see all the naming variations a single star can have. The fact that Frontier seems to have picked stars randomly from different catalogues doesn't make finding them easier. :D

Thanks for the info the first Star I've checked has 18 other identifiers none of which are in the game :(

SAO 206462

I've checked a few other in my list and only found one, but after checking it at Simbad it's not the star I'm looking for. :S
