What’s the HTC Vive?
HTC Vive is the new virtual reality headset from HTC with a 1080p* OLED display, 90hz refresh rate and ‘Lighthouse’ positional tracking system.
When does SteamVR/Vive come out?
HTC Vive will get a limited release this Holiday season, and is expected to be fully launched in 2016.
When will the Elite series begin supporting SteamVR from? Launch day of SteamVR?
Elite: Dangerous will receive a free update this Holiday season and will be made compatible with HTC Vive in time for the headset’s launch.
Will it cost me any more to use SteamVR in Elite: Dangerous?
All you need to play Elite: Dangerous in SteamVR will be a copy of the game, an HTC Vive headset and a PC with specifications to be confirmed, though said specifications are expected to be greater than the minimum specifications required to play Elite: Dangerous.
Will Elite: Dangerous & Elite Dangerous: Horizons both support SteamVR?
We’re announcing support for Elite: Dangerous now, and are working to make Season Two features compatible with SteamVR.
What is happening with Elite + Oculus Rift support?
Frontier Developments has been a long-time supporter of VR and Oculus Rift. Elite: Dangerous remains compatible with Oculus Rift SDK 0.5, and Frontier Developments will discuss support for future SDK revisions when the Rift approaches its consumer release.
Can I still use an Oculus Rift in ED after SteamVR is released?
Elite: Dangerous is compatible with Oculus Rift SDK 0.5 and will retain its compatibility in the foreseeable future. Frontier Developments will discuss support for future SDK revisions when Rift approaches its consumer release.
Are you planning on supporting any other VR solution?
Frontier Developments has been a long-time supporter of virtual reality and many other emergent gaming technologies. We have nothing to announce right now, but we are invested in making the world’s best VR experience with Elite: Dangerous, and will remain committed to VR.
