I am currently on my way to Sag A* - obviously that gets you thinking (I know, I shouldn't do so much of that!) .. I was wondering about the current "Issue" with planet colours.

Now if it is down to the 'Realism' factor, would you CMDR's be willing to sacrifice realism for variety?

This poll is based, purely on the assumption that everything to do with planet colours is "Working as intended"

Interested to see the result of this :)

I voted no. The galaxy in the game should represent as accurate a model as is reasonably practical, only our interaction with it is fantasy.

If that means the majority of airless rocks are mundane, with the occasional jewel then so be it.

However where nothing is known & the designers must rely on imagination, I can accept a little latitude.

What is the base line for "realism" for system bodies?

While I understand that just by shier numbers there will be a tendency toward similarity. But in this case we do not have a lot of real data to draw from. Personally I would like to think that for each type of system object, such as HMC, MR, Icy, RI..... There would be as much variation as we have for types of stars. I think it is fair to say that is not the case right now.

I generally like realism in games, but games should always sacrifice a little tiny bit of it to remain fun. I assume we're talking about graphics here.

Op seems to be asking specifically about planet colours. Since we will get atmospheres (eventually) I'm fine with the Devs going down the realism route as far as airless worlds reflecting star colours. We will get some amazing combinations once all that light is being scattered through various types of atmospheres.

In all fairness to the devs, not all landable planets are beige, you can still find many gems out there if you look, especially inside nebulae.

Considering we are already playing a game where we travel faster than the speed of light... not too sure how much realism applies anymore, nor how much more to give up would be too much...

Which option included more bacon? This is important.

I voted "yes" but I really wanted an option for cheese with bacon.

Bacon is equal on both sides of the poll (no favoritism here :) .. sorry about the lack of cheese .. I now know for next time)

On topic, yes it is just about planet colours .. I was just thinking that it might be great to discover some really funky coloured planets ... we only have an educated guess as to what is out there .. so who's to say that there are no purple and red planets ? :D

Only 366 jumps to Sag A* :)

I do not think we are close to realism to be having that pool.
I mean, look at Jupiter´s moons. They are pretty colorful next to the beige that plagues Elite.
I am sure this will be fixed in future patches though.
