Reality Check

Yes, and how stupid would it look if you go to this very restaurant daily for 4 years and you don't even like broccoli!

Lol, good point. Fair play.

I would imagine the broccoli loving clientele would be pointing and laughing after the first visit, which I'm sure would take care of a lot of the customers. Then again, just think of the reputation of the restaurant.

If I cared enough, maybe out of a sense of legacy to the previous owners, I'd try and help them to do something about that, without necessarily being a return customer (unless they pay my day rate of course). All the while wondering why people come back for a plate of broccoli time and time again, and why the kitchen refit is taking four years.

It's just a matter of being what you want to eat I guess. I suppose they could always stop inviting me in to provide feedback and advice on the issues surrounding the kitchen requirements, but why would they want to? They're nice people.

The people eating there every week are just happy with their lot and it's a tricky business getting people overjoyed with boiled florets to switch to Lobster Thermidore. But we'll give it a go together!

Until the new hobs go in, I'll just have to put up with us both appearing a bit daft!

I don't know about you, but I am definitely hungry now.

I'm having spam.

Lobster Thermidor aux crevettes with a Mornay sauce, garnished with truffle pâté, brandy and a fried egg on top and Spam

Not been on the forums for a while. Good to be back. Had an ED break and looking forward to jumping back in when Beyond lands. Nothing wrong with the game. Peoples tastes just vary and maybe at varying times.

It never ceases to amaze me how people compare Elite Dangerous to a subscription based game, then complain about "end game" content when they've played for thousands of hours.

The company isn't responsible for your eternal happiness. Out of thousands of hours of game play, if you're still coming to the conclusion you weren't "entertained" enough, it's apparent you really have a different view of "value" of a product. Subscription based games are a bit different- in that your "investment" over a period of time goes to continued development and entertainment.

Elite Dangerous isn't based on a subscription- your "investment" is for the product "as is" at the time of purchase. The only people who can "somewhat" argue future development content would be those based on LEP or KS/backer LEP offerings. Even then, it's a pretty thin argument years down the road after the launch. Good luck trying to settle that one in court, or garner sympathy- convincing a judge or magistrate that over years of time you really didn't get any value out of the product when FD can clearly show them logs of your play time as well as login frequency. It's really quite simple- you bought a product, held it for X amount of time, and then don't feel it holds the same value. Depreciation, perhaps?

As to the generalized "game design sucks!" sentiments I see a lot of- I'll value any such posturing as much as I would anyone who's trying to compare any other profession. Unless you've walked the same mile in another's shoes, your opinion matters as much as your own accomplishment and experiences. If you're going to compare- have something to compare it to. Just as any other construct, opinions will always vary.

And also- a public forum isn't some sort of "echo box" where critique of critique isn't permitted. You've a right to your own opinions, and others theirs, too. Disagreement isn't a "crime" nor is it against the forums "rules". You have your say, and others have theirs.

How's that for a "reality check"?

“Ok now what?” There is nothing else to do.

There are all kinds of things to do. It is up to you to find them and do them! This game is not going to tell you what and where to do things.

Right now I am building reputation with a faction that has influence in several systems and helping that faction increase its influence. Why? Because this is to my advantage as when I gain allied status and this faction has more influence I get better missions to do in that sector. This also tends to increase the likelihood of wars and civil wars in this sector, again, things I can participate in.

This game did not/does not/never will have a base story line. There are many "stories" going on. You need to find them. Missions will get better but you will never be the savior of the galaxy!

Agreed, I think the ED model is great. You buy the game, get free updates, a new "season" comes out, you buy that, get regular updates, rinse repeat. This works just fine for me.

It certainly is not like EA and FIFA. Pay full price every year, your last year game still works but you get no new updates on players or anything, and the new games get worse every year. Not for me I stopped paying EA in 2015! Screw them!

Or the subscription games where very little new content comes out? I don't have any like this but I have heard folks complain about them.

Just spam or spam, spam, spam, spam, bacon and spam?

Why can't I have egg bacon spam and sausage?
