Really annoyed now

Doing my usual 10K cargo run, decided to stop at a signal source... its corbra III with a wanted sticker, I'm not carrying much so time for a dogfight( and try out my spiffy new beam laser)

Knocked the shields down, banged about 30% hull damage on the little so and so, police turn up and join in the dogfight.

Said copper decides to fly across in front of me just as I resume firing......

I am so glad I invested in the C3 power plant and uprated thrusters for my little viper.... and the cops did'nt even want to shoot the cobra

Do you have "report crimes against me" turned on? If so, I advise turning it off. You hit the police with an errant round/beam and they will swarm on you like angry wasps.

I have "report crimes against me" turned off - no police when attacked by a pirate - no problem like the one you describe :)

You can turn off "report crimes against me" in the right panel to stop the police coming along and joining you.

Edit: Damn you Aquila, too fast :)

Trigger discipline.

It's difficult, but try and learn to stop shooting when a ship is coming in and may cross your line of fire.
You can't just concentrate on zapping the pirate or whoever, you need to maintain awareness of what else is going on around you. It's a skill that comes with time and practice so keep going and you'll get there soon enough.

I'd advise you leave the "report crimes" thing switched to on.
Otherwise there'll be another thread soon about how you got no help from the police when you were getting zapped by someone else.
Sort out the zapping-those-who-should-not-be-zapped thing and you'll be fine in no time.

That's what I thought. What I'd like is a toggle button for that. Just flicking the switch on my Warthog to "off" while I'm messing with wanted Cobras, and back to "on" if the wanted guy has an Anaconda...

It is really stupid as has been mentioned many times before. Good advice turn off the report crimes against me . Trigger finger disciplin is ok but still does not address the madness that ensues when accidentily hitting a ship that roars in accross you line of fire. Your only option is to not fire at all when other ships are near you as they are so unpredictable. I tried to get hit myself the other day to get the other ship wanted as it does me in the same situation and of course it does not . You get hit but absolutly nothing happens to the ship that hits you.

Strange mechanic that, IMHO, needs redressing.

Honestly 200Cr fine should not mean Police switch to chasing you down! Nuff said...
Simple Fix: Bounty under 1000k should not be chased by the police... handle these at stations only, job done.

Just lost another 100k bcz a copper bounced off me...!

I think some games differentiate between hitting the shields (not bad) and hitting the ship (bad). I know that Wing Commander OTOH had a "one strike" rule, as long as no enemies are present. Hitting a good guy a second time makes you the bad guy. If enemies are present, this is switched off. Maybe a combination of both might help: if there's a hostile guy present, hitting the shields of a good guy gets you fined at max, no chasing. Hitting the hull gets you fined and considered attacking. (That still leaves open the issue of shield-less or shield-down ships, but that might never be solved considering a right to self-defend.) If there's no hostile guy around, you're a criminal starting with the first shot.

Jus as I wrote this, I had a security ship cross my line of fire *very* quickly - it took less than a second for it to cross my entire screen. No chance to stop shooting. And immediately, all security vessels were after me.

Something like this as a placeholder at least for now.

Seems like such a simple fix, even as you say it's just placeholder solution.

I find it really funny/wrong when you're hunting a big bounty guy and you clip a fed, despite the massive Cr price tag, they switch to attack you for that 200Cr? Dumb really. Come on guys fix this before we all lose our minds ...

What about those times when a defense ships comes directly from above or below you and passes within a few meters of your ship? On these occasions you don't even get a chance to see them.

If you chase down a robber, both get surrounded by cops, and you miss and punch a cop, they won't go easy on you.

It's realistic, learn to deal with it.

I know it's annoying getting always the same answers, but hey, sometimes you gotta tough up and move on.

A few tips: use cockpit view and pay attention to the radar.

Doesn't turning it off also mean you can be attacked within the station no fire one whilst your attacker gets a fine only instead of being vapourised by the station defences?

Also this accidental cop shooting thing is apparently being addressed in 1.1.

You dont need to see them, that is why you have radar. If the 'stick' decreases in height or if the position moves more towards the center it is getting closer. Just keep an eye out for anything moving in between you and the target on the radar.

Problem is, sometimes they kamikaze in front of you from nowhere on purpose. Cops are Donkey-icon.pngholes.

A while back I was KWSing pirates in a anarchy system which for some odd reason had system authority vessels... blasting those after they clipped in front of me was the best fun I had in days.

Friendly fire will be dealt with in Patch 1.1, accidental hits on friendlies won't immediately turn them hostile anymore.

If true, this is disappointing news. Not to mention, completely unrealistic. You shoot at a cop, even if it is an accidental discharge or he walked into your line of fire, he and other cops shoot back. Pls don't dumb down the game, FD!

I'm sure i got a 200 credit bounty when a Police ship flew into me the other day. Not much holding fire could do about that
