Really annoyed now

What about those times when a defense ships comes directly from above or below you and passes within a few meters of your ship? On these occasions you don't even get a chance to see them.

Its called situational awareness... they dont just pop out of nowhere!

If true, this is disappointing news. Not to mention, completely unrealistic. You shoot at a cop, even if it is an accidental discharge or he walked into your line of fire, he and other cops shoot back. Pls don't dumb down the game, FD!

It would seem that they are tweaking it for those who are unable to understand how radar and situational awareness works... Sad I know.

What would happen if you accidentally shot a cop on RL?
my guess, they'll shoot back

This isn't real life, it's a game, and thankfully the issue is being addressed.

Edit: Fyi I have only had it happen to me once, and it was my fault, but for beginners it is unnecessarily harsh.

It happened to me once, went and paid my fine. After that it never happened again.
this game is way too easy IMO and should be made harsher and more difficult.

Then again there is a slight difference between putting a bullet into a cop's flesh and scratching their rechargeable shields. That being said, if you're aware of your surroundings this shouldn't be a problem.

Doing my usual 10K cargo run, decided to stop at a signal source... its corbra III with a wanted sticker, I'm not carrying much so time for a dogfight( and try out my spiffy new beam laser)

Knocked the shields down, banged about 30% hull damage on the little so and so, police turn up and join in the dogfight.

Said copper decides to fly across in front of me just as I resume firing......

I am so glad I invested in the C3 power plant and uprated thrusters for my little viper.... and the cops did'nt even want to shoot the cobra

At least they didn't fly so close that you rammed them at full speed, causing your ship to explode. Guy crossed my 'T' while booking it himself - I literally had NO chance to swerve. Damn pilot was suicidal!

That's why you always keep insurance money handy, children ;)

It is true. There is a very long friendly fire thread, which this will probably be merged with anyway. One of the devs responsible for AI has outlined what the changes will be. Summed up, a tolerance for friendly fire hits on shielded NPC's. Live CMDR hits will still incur the bounty I believe. She is also going to try and make the NPC's not fly into the arc of your firing area. FWIW, I think trigger discipline is important, and I make friendly fire hits occasionally, so not saying I'm better than anyone else. :)

This is being addressed in the 1.1 patch.

Great! Dev's get to dumb down the game because players cant watch their fire. I obviously done get the big deal... Me and 2 friends were in a high intensity warzone for multiple hours the other day.. not once did any of us shoot the wrong people and have them go red.. I couldn't imagine having an issue with only 2 cops to watch out for.. Thats not a "im a great ED player" comment either, because I consider myself average at best..

Ive also shot at cops deliberately.. to get fines to see how they react.. never have they instantly become so aggressive i couldnt finish my kill before calmly leaving the instance.. I wanted to see how people were getting a 200cr fine and then getting blown up at stations.. and never experienced that either.. ive had multiple fines (up to 2k of them from intentionally hitting feds) and waltzed right into a station without a care in the world.. obviously not allowing myself to get scanned on my way in.. which was simply going into the door more then 80km/hr...

Im not complaining about the people this happens to.. its just that I certainly have never experianced the kind of "issues" others seem to have posted.. its one thing to say there's a bug and stations blow you up with a 200cr fine.. but its not a "bug" when they scan you, see your wanted, and THEN blow you up over it.. i mean YOU KNEW you were wanted.. dont get scanned on your way in! :)

Oh well.. maybe one-day it will happen, and ill finally know what these posts area all about.

Well now, hang on, maybe not! I agree about situational awareness, but sometimes, as has been said, there is just no avoiding it. And I agree that this is a game and not RL - but it is a RL sim is it not? There are lots of ways of addressing the problem and I don't think we know as yet exactly how they are addressing it. It could be a "free one" for example, or maybe you get the fine but they won't turn against you until the hierarchy of bounties/fines reaches down to your level, or some other method. Let's wait and see what they have done.

Out of all the options mentioned in this thread so far the one I think I like the best at this stage is that the cops should ignore anything less than 1000cr or some such. You still get fined for hitting a cop, say 200cr each time, and if you keep on doing it until you reach 1000cr then you are just stupid and deserve all you get. If you happen to be on 800 so that all it takes is one hit then that tips you over into the stupid bracket also. In any case, I'm not aware of exactly how the solution will manifest so let's wait and see before we start complaining about dumbing down the game - which I really hope doesn't happen.

According to Sarah Jane the dev who has changed the code if i'm remembering it right if you target a cop and shoot they turn hostile, If you damage their hull in anyway they turn hostile and if you just damage there shield they issue a verbal warning or insult.

So if you actualy WANT to kill feds, nothing happens until thier shields are gone? that would make them pretty easy to kill

Am i special at aiming? As i have never had this problem. Im worried about your spacial awareness. :p

That said i think i did hit someone in a conflict zone but it didnt do anything.

Personally i dont see it as a problem. If the police are taking him on and you are incapable just hold your fire. That said if lots of people have this problem i guess they could do something as long as it doent break something else.

I've occasionally hit the police and had them turn hostile. The don't always immediately turn on you, but if they do I put pedal the metal and then go pay my fine.

Usually I manage to get the target first though. I'm not sure I particularly want to see it dumbed down. I agree with the trigger discipline quotes. I've dogfighted against enemies with police nipping in and out of my fire arc and managed not to hit the police for hours at a time. It's not a game breaker for me.
