Been doing my bit to kill Thargoids, and I thought I'd pick up a mission to break things up. Surprise! 20 minutes of stupid.

Worth mentioning if you didn't already know, but AX cz kills in the same system as the "mission" ones now count for the scout missions as well - saves a lot of time - dock at Aegis ship - grab missions - go wipe out AX cz - Profit ! :)
 
I wonder what the credit earn before asking if it was annoying or not.
It was a couple of hundred k. That's why I didn't anticipate the ridiculous distance.

Passenger and transport missions designate ls ranges prior to taking the missions. Scout, interceptor, assasination, blackbox, etc. missions have and rng factored uss spawn location. You are unable to determine the SC ls mission range prior to taking the this class of missions. The spawn range is rng'd off of the entire system size - this could be improved either with a statement of range in the mission descriptor, or by capping the spawn range less than 10kls.

Capping a mission would ruin Elite Dangerous and it vastness. I think it was a clever idea Frontier did not gives every mission the distance. Sometimes not knowing makes for a better game.
