I'm not going to grind for things, I'm just going to see what comes up. Sometimes it'll be good, sometimes you'll throw it away.
Will it be perfectly fair? No. Neither is life, and neither should be ED.
But on average, the more you put in, the more you'll get out. You might not get exactly what you want, but chances are you'll get some good stuff if you work at it. So you might have to change your tactics to work with the stuff that you got lucky with.
I think that's a good thing. Instead of just trying to make a pre-planned perfect build (which will be very hard due to the RNG) instead you're better off making a great ship out of the things you get. Being adaptable is rewarded.
I'm looking forward to even having ships with various quirks like I'm flying a Millennium Falcon. Sure, all the weapons might not have the same fire rate, and it might not be perfect, but I think that's what makes it more interesting.
