Newcomer / Intro Really slow supercruise can't catch hulls

So i got a viper and i've spent lots of credits on it, i bought the omni damage plate thats military thats 9T but i stripped down heaps of modules to have less T... i'm guessing this is tons? i got the basic interdiction module but i can't catch up with anyone. Havent upgraded my FSD yet. Will buying a better FSD increase supercruise speed? or does weight factor it? or perhaps the hull is locked to a set supercruise? i can't even catch sidewinders or cobramk3 it's very annoying. My scout friend has to catch them for me. Any help?

All ships travel at the same speed in supercruise. You need to catch them while the are still accelerating or decelerating.

You FSD will not affect you abillity to catch up with other ships only the jump distances of you ship will change by upgrading or downgrading the FSD...
The speed you experience in SC is something that slowly builds up and then more or less slows down again as you approach you target destination(with the possibillity of overshoot). And all ships can travel at equal speed in SC reguardless of their size and weight so you should be able to interdict every ship you want to even if it seem like the are getting away from you you should still be able to catch up with them as the get closer to there destination and you following thembut at a greater distance you'll be traveling faster than they do and within a few seconds you'll be in range to initiate the interdiction...

Also your target needs to be facing away from you in order for you to be able to start the minigame of interdiction/escaping-interdiction... The higher your speed is when you initiate the interdiction the more damage your ships gets, if your target doesn't just submit to your interdiction. So keep that in mind when desiding when to start frameshift interdictor agains a ship... Especially if it's one of those very high speed interdictions where you chase you target for like 100.000 Ls, your speed at such a distance can be quite devastating and expensive to repair, compaired to what you might bring in as a bounty from your target....

There are workarounds, if you're operating around celestial bodies. As you know, your ship automatically slows down when close to a body, so if you want to move more freely (both for hunting, or escaping) it is actually a good idea fly away from the orbit plane. That way you can keep good overview of the system, and move around without the gravity effects and accelerate and decelerate more quickly.
