Rebalancing Odyssey Weapons around Weight

The current system really doesn't work great. Carrying 2x rocket launchers is OP, and most of the SMGs are largely useless.


I think there's a relatively simple solution for this. Rebalance weapons to have a 'weight' stat, and suit capacity is based on this, not a hard number of weapons.

Example:

L6 Rocket Launcher - 8 Weight
Assault Rifles - 6 Weight
SMGs - 4 Weight
Pistols - 2 weight
Plasma Weapons - +1 weight.

Each different suit has a different weight capacity.

Artemis: 8
Maverick: 10
Dominator: 15

So a Dominator can use one rocket launcher and one of anything else, but not two rocket launchers. A maverick can use a rocket launcher too, but only with a pistol. And an Artemis can use a rocket launcher but without any other weapons.

Notably, this means that SMGs have a reason to exist, as it allows a Maverick or Artemis to get AR damage levels but with lighter weight.
 
This is a can of worms and heading into DnD encumbrance. You could make the suits weigh differently, increasing as they get better. Amount of stuff carried as well could be taken into account.

Ideally this would actually tie into other things too, like secondary traits of the suits, so carrying less weapons means you can do other stuff more often.

For example, maybe the Maverick suit generates shield grenades periodically, but does so slower or faster depending on how encumbered you are. This creates a dynamic system whereby you choose what weapons you want to synergize with the suit type in question.

It would definitely add a degree of complexity, but I'd argue the current system is far too simple to really be fun.
