Rebought ship not able to power itself anymore

EDIT: Never mind, the simplest explanation is simply cargo hatch was in priority 5. Apologies. Rebuying does seem to shift cargo hatch to 2, I've definitely had that before and it causes a bit of confusion sometimes, but I quite believably never had the cargo hatch open when weapons were out. That's the easiest explanation. Please ignore this thread!

...okay, before anyone says I've hit the Lavian Brandy a little early, I promise there's at least a very good chance I'm not talking nonsense.

I got a little 'experimental' trying reboot/repair after running only 6 kilometres away in my Fer-de-Lance, and faced a rebuy screen. Bought it, all modules retained, set off from my last port, got into another scuffle and...

...deploying my weapons took my life support offline.

Now, I use pretty much the same priority system on every ship I fly:

  • Priority 1: thruster, FSD, sensors, power distributor.
  • Priority 2: shield generator, shield boosters.
  • Priority 3: weapons and any combat utilities, e.g. chaff.
  • Priority 4: life support, warrant/wake scanners, cargo hatch.
  • Priority 5: fuel scoop, interdictor, docking computer.
So, priority 4 had tripped offline. Except... before, only priority 5 tripped when deploying weapons. I checked to see if anything had changed priority group, and with a sense of déjà vu saw the cargo hatch was now in 2, and put it back in 4. But, of course, that doesn't change the problem: 1-4 is now over 100%, when before dying it wasn't.

I say déjà vu. I've a feeling I've had this exact situation before. This time, I can link to my Coriolis build, a build imported before the repurchase. And... sure enough (and this is where I questioned my own sanity/sobriety), Coriolis says the build doesn't cover priorities 1-4.

But it ran fine an hour ago!

Has anyone had anything similar, and does anyone have any ideas what I'm encountering, if not my own insanity? I've used the warrant scanner, wake scanner and cargo hatch all regularly, so I'm certain they all fit into priority 4 before. My best guess, insanity aside, is that since outfitting the ship last, a new patch (which Coriolis has reflected) came in that changed the power draw of something, but it doesn't retroactively affect an existing ship (until rebuy). The only alternative, I guess, is I had a shield booster in priority 5 without noticing, but I seriously doubt it

I would not know CMDR, but imo you have priorities wrong anyway. And Loadout :)
Docking computer on FDL
Life support is top ranked normally
All level 4 an 5 : Same useles crap, why differentiate ?
In this position : Shield Boosters level 2 Honestly !!

Your prioritization should make you survive to fight another day, when you need this you need to leave, survival is essential. Forget about offensive stuff, bla bla get out : Trusters , Sensors, Fsd, Life support all in 1 or 2.

Cheers Cmdr's

A deactivated docking computer, you'll notice. I switch it on now and then if I want to do something else (maybe plot a course, maybe put the kettle on) while it's docking. It's carefully optimised with my kettle so that by the time I've finished my business in the spaceport and am ready to hit launch, the kettle's boiled and I can boost out of the slot, run for my cup of tea and be back just as I leave mass lock.

Life support doesn't need to be at 1. You don't need it to survive combat when your power plant is destroyed, and hell, there's a fair chance your canopy has been cracked by that point anyway. Losing life support isn't an immediate problem, it just gives you a timer. And I have it at 4 specifically for this type of situation, so that if anything trips off the first priority group that should stay on, I get a very clear warning. Otherwise I might not notice... imagine if life support was in 1, somehow I tripped all the way to 3 offline, and didn't notice my weapons weren't working until I tried to fire on someone.

The priority 4/5 differentiation is straightforward: 5 is anything that can't be used with weapons deployed, 4 is anything that can but is less important than weapons. Cargo hatch is fine on 5 (see edit: that was the problem) but is occasionally irritating, the scanners being on 5 would mean power micromanagement just to scan a target/wake.

Shield boosters at 2... is obvious, isn't it? Priority 1 is only for when my power plant is down to 40/50% effectiveness, and you can't (often) power the essential 'run away' modules (thrusters to throttle up to it, FSD to jump to it, power distributor to boost out of mass lock, sensors to know which direction to run in) plus a shield generator within 40/50%. In that kind of urgent situation, my shield is down anyway, so who cares about shield boosters? Chances are it's not coming back online before I'm dead or have escaped anyway.

Curious why your objection to the loadout is, anyway? Multi-cannons and beams are a pretty strong, unobjectionable combination. Huge multi-cannon and four medium beams might be better (esp. once the hull hardness changes finally hit), but I'm not a fan of the aesthetic of it, and prefer the optimised sniping one huge beam offers. If the objection is Rapid Fire on the multi-cannons, it's a placeholder upgrade – it was simply the best modification I could afford at the time.
