The best thing you could do, would be.....something like a tiered insurance system like eve does for your ship. Either way its basically a fault of the way the game was built, players can just pop into solo and have near zero risk. Because as it stands the biggest risk in the game, is getting ganked, and then far behind that, is biting off more then you can chew.

I've been playing this game since 2015, a little more "hard core" since this COVID crap, and in all that time, flying though the most dangerous regions of space, I've only been Ganked once, at Celaeno in my Krait anti-Xeno ship. Where ARE all these Gankers, exactly? I know it's a thing, I see system messages of people talking about so 'n so ganking in Deciat, but I've been to Deciat a BILLION times, I've flown around Deciat looking for gankers, nothing. I've been followed several times, looked like I was about to get "ganked", but still, nothing. I'm like what's wrong with me? Am I not worthy of a gank?!! :( As a matter of gank fact, just last night... I flew over to Alpha Centari to get a system scan, never been there, and as soon as I hit the system, I was rushed by a player in a Federal Gun Ship... I was in my DBX, no weaons, would have been the easiest kill in the world. I just hung there and watched him get right on my butt and then turn and go the other way. I thought for sure... I am dead, DO IT!!! Nothing.

That's the BIGGEST overhaul this game neeeeeeds... GRINDING! I used to think it would be nice to see a planet DLC, add some variety to planets, but I'd take FDEV spending their time to revamp the INSANE amount of grinding over anything else. They kill VO, the kill Golden Eggs, they kill this, they kill that, they NERF and NERF, but still... I need to go to Dav's Hope and re-log a BILLION times for some low grade MATS?! Pff! Never seen such a thing in a game. Could you imagine doing that in like The Witcher or Skyrim, re-log to collect stuff and more of the same stuff? Would people find that acceptable in those games, as an actual game mechanic or at the least, way of playing? I don't know, maybe it works.. next time I am playing something like Fallout, I'll pick up a box of ammo, then log to the menu screen and log back in and see if I still have that ammo box and a new box has spawned in. Never tried :unsure:

Agree. I don't know of any other games where I have to relog to collect something, but unfortunately that's the only fast way of gathering mats, otherwise if you want to collect them without relogging, you wouldn't have gathered enough mats to engineer even one ship. :cry:

Yup, it's a weird must in this game. Otherwise, if you only had one chance to say farm Dav's Hope, people wouldn't play this game. However, you used to be able to re-log HGEs, but they did NERF that, so... I don't know, maybe one day they will NERF places like the Jameson Ship or Dav's Hope, or a million other sites where you can re-log. I think there'd be a MAJOR uproar if they didn't replace MAT gathering with something, like drastically lowering the amount of MATS you need for module upgrades, something...

Yeah, you used to be able to find a HGE, collect the MATS. Then log out to the menu, log back in. You'd find yourself floating in space. You'd hit the SC, slow down, and then immediately check your surrounding area and that same HGE would be right back where it was to harvest again. you can't do that anymore. Or at least it was supposed to be Nerfville back about a year ago. I tried it and sure enough, it was no longer working. If you can do it still, then I'll need to try it again, it was certainly a time saver!

Maybe over a year ago you could do that, but what I have learnt and done so in the past year is you cannot just Exit to Main Menu. You have to Quit to Desktop, load the game from the ED Launcher again, start the game again (in the same mode, say you were in Open Play before, then choose Open Play again). then you go through the same routine as you have described about SC, slow down, fly back to the same HGE spot, you will see the same HG mats spawned up again.

Just remember to choose Quite to Desktop, not Exit to Main Menu.

OH! In that case, that's a lot of work and probably just WAY faster to find another HGE source, however, helpful for say Pharmaceutical Isolators which seem to be very hard to come by. I find SO MANY Core Dynamics Composites and Proprietary Composites, Improvised Components, Proto Radiolic Alloys, Proto Light Alloys, etc. that just looking for another HGE would be way faster. But for the Isolators and some other harder to find ones, I think it would be worth it, to go through all that. Especially, Pharmaceutical Isolators!

That's odd that it works, that you find the same HGE after actually quitting the game and starting up again. I thought HGE would be completely RNG. Hmm. That's weird, so the game is actually spawning them at certain spots, on certain days, at certain times, not just randomly. Interesting, from a programming prospective. They are MEANT to be right there, apparently. I'd love to see the code behind their generation.

Not really. I can normally fill up 100 G5 manufactured mats from one HGE spot in just over 30 minutes.

Just think how much faster it would be if you didn't need to actually quit the game. It used to be that way. I think it was patch 3.3.02 that nerfed the menu log.

Of course. I use the Exit to Main Menu relog method if I want to do one Combat Aftermath spot repeatedly, that is definitely faster than Quit to Desktop.

not all players are that super rich. for the most time I had like 200mil in cash and a 14m rebuy does hurt me.

I don't see a problem here, don't force your rich people problems on us poor guys.

What do you consider "Rich"? I am comfortable, but far from FC owner or "Money is no object", and now that VO is nearly worthless, compared to when I was mining it for $200M a Krait load, money is hard to come by. I have two ways to make OK money, just killing a lot of ships or Robigo. I pick Robigo, and if that went away, so would I. That would be the last straw for me. I played this game for 95% of my time into it, which in nearing 3000 hours, with no more than an average of $30M credits, for years! I flew the same ship for my first 4 years in the game, a Viper, with NO engineering at all. I am comfy now because of VO, and that's all but gone now. So, money to me is still very concerning. I've seen guys with credit accounts in the hundreds of billions. Crazy! I'd love to have that bank roll! Then, all would need be concerned with is MAT collecting and having fun ENG my ships.

Rich in this game is having like 20b+ credits because even getting 5B for a FC is possible with a week of grinding a few hours a day.

Wing mission stacking with friends, can net close to 200m an hour if luck is with you.
The prep time for doing it is just annoying, because you need to find the right systems, and get all the factions up to allied.
But even solo you can net probably 100m an hour. Hell you can even AFK farm it in the right systems

There is also robigo run which can easily get you 60~80m an hour while you listen to pod casts or watch netflix/hulu

I do Robigo, and yeah, I can make close to $100M an hour. This is my path to a FC, the only one I can see. I like to keep, a the very least $2B in the bank at all times, I have $3.5B now and still have lots of expensive modules to buy to "finish" up my ships, although I am never really done, always swapping weapons, but the basic Modules I can finish off. If I did that now, would probably drop me about $1B. SO, let's say that leaves me with $2.5B, and I want to maintain $2B in savings. I have $500M toward my FC, which means I still need another $4.5B. That's a LOT of Robigo runs. I am thinking there's some mining I could be doing that would be more profitable, but other than Core mining, I am not sure what. Cores seem to be pretty dead, and the only ships that are good at Cores don't hold a significant amount of cargo. I have a T-9 and a T-10, plus a Cutter if needed, that can all hold much more mining ore. So, I need to find the best mining spot and get to laser mining, plus continue with Robigo. I guess it's doable, I just don't really know what to mine and where. $20B just seems ridiculously out of reach, for me. There was a VO time where I could have seen that, but...
