Recalcitrant SLF Pilots. Won't Follow Orders. Potatoes.

Have been bumbling around doing AX CZs in Kupol Voh. Whenever I politely request my SLF pilot to attack the Scout, he/she refuses. Every single time. Repeatedly. Even whilst being attacked. This happened with two different SLF Pilots. When I requested them to hold formation they complied. These bozos simply wouldn't attack. I got fed up and fired them and replaced them with far more congenial heavy duty hull reinforcements.

The SLF Pilots even got paid for their cheekiness.

Have the Far God Thargoid cultists infiltrated the Pilot's Federation?

I am a very nice and reasonable commander to work for.

could it be that they are out of ammo?

I have encountered this quite alot lately, that they run of out ammo, and then simply tells me, cannot do that, docking and deploy them again re-arms them and they will be fighting again.

Doubt it. I've had my SLFs get bugged and refuse to follow any order at all. Wouldn't even follow me.

Also pretty sure that NPC SLFs do not run out of ammo. I have stayed in RES until I ran through 32 tons of fuel with Plasma Slugs (hours) and my Plasma Repeater/Multi-Cannon NPC SLFs have never run out of ammo. Sounds like your SLF got bugged and Recallying/Re-Deploying fixed it.

Had similar, seems to be complicated by actually giving orders in the first place, generally ive found leave them to it, otherwise they get confused.

On the other side of the coin, ive told them to dock, only to watch the fighter just sit there.... at first I thought ok... maybe its engines are disabled, or its in bad shape.... so I switched to fighter.... nothing wrong with it....

I swear they go on strike, clearly they are not being paid enough.....

I often order them to Deploy and return to fighting only to notice that they did not Deploy, then the moment I bring up their Orders menu they immediately Deploy.

NPC SLFs are very buggy.
 
I had this happen to me in an ax cz. I decided to swap with my npc's pilot so they can use my ship and I in the fighter, but I found out why she refused to fight: weapons were deactivated. Idk how as the module panel doesn't show them to toggle. The only solution is to replace the fighter in the hanger with a different one at a station, then swap back
 
Switching to the fighter and back usually fixes this for me. Sometimes it requires launching the fighter myself. And sometimes the NPCs just turn off modules, so gotta check that too.

The guardian SLF appears to be run out of ammo, the standard SLF was another story.
 
Guardian SLF's run out of ammo and stop obeying attack orders. I command them to hold position so they die quickly and launch another one. Problem solved :)
 
While annoying, a sure way of dealing with this bug (assuming all other tricks don't work) is to sell your SLF fighter (or the whole bay) and buy a new one.

I've had a similar experience, and was quite baffled. It wasn't an ammo issue (beams don't have ammo, as far as I know) and the SLF seemed fine. Selling and re-purchasing it worked.

Bump and did you ever figure this out?

I started having this problem as soon as my NPC ranked to deadly - did a dozen runs with dangerous and no problem. Recalling the fighter and re-deploy can fix it sometimes, but that's very annoying and the problems occurs happens again on next deployment.

It wasn't an ammo thing or anything like that, fully stocked from station to AX CZ adjacent. Standard imperial fixed beam fighter.

I'm mostly concerned it isn't an AX CZ thing, and my NPC will balk when I actually care and am not just farming rank.

I have it on video and might file a bug report if no one in this thread ever figured it out.

EDIT - noticed another thing. When i switched into fighter, beams and heat sinks were disabled (as if one goes into right hand menu and deactivates). I can turn them back on, and then switch back to mothership, and then SLF acts normally. On a different time the bug happened, the beams and sinks weren't even shown in the right hand panel at all when I took control of SLF, and I had to switch to mothership, than back to SLF yet again, to have them appear. Seems like a bug where sometimes when the SLF is deployed, components are missing.

Anyway, the gist of it has to do with when an Interceptor zaps your mothership's modules it also automatically zaps your SLF's modules at the same time. So whenever your SLF pilot balks, just go into the fighter and reactivate the weapons. Perhaps it is not working as intended and is a bug. I don't know. It is definitely a pain and is also why I substituted SCBs for the SLF in an AX CZ.

I've only completed two AX CZs and that was because I was lucky enough to be instanced with AXI wings. If I recall correctly, none were using SLFs, but then some were such excellent pilots that they were one shotting scouts with gauss cannons.

In my case, the interceptor hadn't even popped yet, or even close. It was literally the first SLF deploy dropping into an ax cz with only some scouts. So def a bug.

Thank you for your helpful reply - if you can find that other thread, I will include both in my bug report along with a video of my aberrant behavior, it sounds like a few different things might be intermixed.

Personally, I've given up on, SLFs and sold them all, the KWS. And with the removal of the exploration scanner, I have loads of new module slots!
