Recaping a gank

So I was out there in Belarsuk, leveling my SLF pilot, killing pirates etc.

Been there for a good hour, was running out of ammo (had couple of hundred left in 1 huge MC), and suddenly got attacked by a CMDR in FDL.

Wasn't much of an issue, pew pew'ed him away with just one cannon, without even gettined the first ring of my shields dimmed.

Was heading toward the station for refils, got interdicted by the same guy, this time in a iClipper, using thermal cascade seeker missles, but I'm way more then prepared for this 'ol trick, and with few rounds of MC ammo left, I send him running again.

I dock at the station, go on forums for a bit, come back ready to go home to Jameson Memorial, when I noticed that guy brought some mates, they are all in FDL's and are now camping the outside of the station, obviously waiting for me to come out.

I scan their ships for loadouts, nothing out of the ordinary, mainly MC's, and one of them has a Huge PA, which is not that uncommon on the FDL, so I'm like pfff, whatever, they ain't sht.

I leave the station and while lining up for a jump, i get attacked from behind, my shield is holding nicely, eh what the heck, I decide to play around with them for a bit.

After some time tho, I take a massive hit, that deletes my shields and leaves me at 40% hull in just one blow, but I don't take much damage afterwards , so I'm able to wake out succesfully, but scratching my head.

I've been sitting with pen and paper for the last 40 minutes, but I still can't figure out how that happened.

I don't recall any of them having Reverberating Cascade torpedoes, unless one of them might have had, even tho I was checking for them (my generator got destroyed and shield boosters damaged to 20-40% , which I forensicly checked in the aftermath when I landed at Jameson)

My shields and boosters are mainly resistance packed, I barely ever take damage, even in PVP (minus heat and RC torpedo builds ofc)

My hull tho is composite surface, so I was thinking that perhaps one of them who had Huge PC, had some hipster thermal conduit + SCB build which in combination with thermal debuff from composite surface armor combined might have been punch, but my Corvette is infact packed with resistance hull reinforcements, so it really shouldn't have taken 60% dmg in one strike, and after which I basically took 3% damage charging FSD, so the armor was definitely holding.

I'm a bit gobsmacked , I will admit, I can't seem to figure out the missing variable here, anyone have any ideas?

Btw, just to be clear, I don't have issues with the gankers themselves, well played to them in fact

Thermal Resist shield, with added resist, I don't think PA would scratched it straight on.

Altho the missing variable could totally be the fact that I launched 6 torpedoes (un-modded, had them equiped for some mechanics testing purposes) at one of the FDLS, but I dont see how the detonation could have harmed me, altho if it did, wops :D

You had three torpedo, i guess they blow up on you and destroy your shield.

Ps : Not really a gank, you was wanted in our system and one fdl can't figth a corvette, 3 fdl vs a corvette is a fair figth :)

No no no, don't get me wrong, I'm not butthurt at all :D I never hated PVP nor gankers, this is not that type of thread, well played to you guys.

I'm more interested into mechanics that happened in that encounter.

For example

- my torps were unmoded, not reverberating cascade, yet they still blew up my generator? how?
- what actually caused 60% hull damage in a split second? Was it the PA? Was it thermal conduit + SCB pa?

Fuel me with science plz :D

What ???
so i clearly not undestand why you lose your shield Oo

If you want we can do some test... (Without destroying your ship of course)

One thougth :
- Bwave don't take raming well

Our fit :
My : 5 MC OC 5 + Ammo + 30%
Mate : 3 MC + 2PA C2 (no mod yet)

huh, that is interesting indeed!

Well I ram people with my Corvette, never had problems like that with Bi-Weave, and as I said they are reinforced to hell.

But non of this makes sense, perhaps there is some bug with torpedoes?

If they infact detonated on me, then their effect makes no sense, they blew through 2.5k of reinforced shields and through 3000 points of heavily reinforced hull, that is just unrealistic.

And when I was waking away I saw you guys shooting at me, but took something like 4% dmg.

Now I'm really wondering if this is a bug, there seems to be quite a few in 2.2

Oh well, I thought I was outtplayed by some super pro's, but apparently I'm just stupid and torps are bit funky in 2.2.

Case closed I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey guys did you see the interview with Adam Reed about the new upcomming Archer season??

so your torpedo was feedback ??

No, unmoded :D completely stock. I was playing around with them in RES, testing the 250/s speed and the ability to connect etc.

I actually thought one of you guys had reverberating cascade and I just missed while scanning, but since it's not the case, I think this is a bug, because my stock torps acted just like reverberating cascade torps and then some

A little off topic but....

So nice to hear a commander have this attitude, I wish those that choose open play had this attitude. I enjoy open *because* of events like this, not in spite of them. Recently I was killed by a commander while leaving a CG station. As I left I put the throttle to 100% and opened the galaxy map putting me well outside the no-fire zone. After 5-10 seconds I'm getting beaten to pieces. I was dead in less than 10 seconds and never got a shot off. After I wasn't upset at all. My rebuy was only $1M so no big deal. Honestly it was one of the most exciting things that's happened to me in game.

I learned a lot from the event, if you see commanders at a station have your jump plotted before lift off. Charge for supercruise as you're leaving so you can jump as soon as you break mass lock. Always run with shields near a CG. Finally always assume another commander is out to kill you until proven otherwise.

I know many commanders don't enjoy this stuff which is exactly why there is solo and private. I've never understood why commanders get upset about PvP when there is such an easy way to avoid it. It bothers me when people make value judgements around PvP as unless they are breaking the terms of service they should be able do what they want, including hunting other commanders. To me that's not douchey at all, save for commanders that target base Sidewinders. Leave the rookies alone and attacking a player like me.

Okay rant over, back to our regularly scheduled discussions.

Aye, good thoughts here ^.~ one thing I learned while exclusively playing open, is checking my friend list at the top left screen where the chat is for unidentified commanders while traveling supercruise and while in res sites.

I pretty much, without exagerating, could say that I check that instrument as frequant as I check my mirrors when I'm driving in real life.

This habbit annoys my mates when I'm in a wing with them, since I keep calling out "unidentified commander in the area", no matter where we go, but everytime I see one in my area of operations I scan them for their loadouts, if they are wanted or not, if they are moving in my general direction, to the point where I never feel in danger in Open space, if a gank or an attack is coming I always see it miles away, and I know before hand if I am going to engage, or disengage.

I value this experience alot, since it brought a lot of life and excitement to my gameplay, and I feel like it made me a more competent CMDR in general ^.^7

In solo , dying from boredom would feel like a bigger danger to me at this point :D

Yep. Game is more fun with dangerous players out there and definitely keep an eye on the top left menu (mostly for players and to know what friends are around) like looking in the rear view mirror. On a side note, so glad OP heat mechanics have been reworked!

Don't be so excited :D recent tests show that "new meta" might be so broken that people will want heat meta back :D but more science is needed
