Reccomended Cobra loadout?

Okay, i'm getting ahead of myself here. After never making it beyond a sidey in PB, I spent Sunday determinedly getting my head around trade, (after getting annoyed with the spamming "unidentified signal source" in SC and the way you can't find good money through fighting right now).

By late afternoon I had amassed the ungodly sum (for me) of 45k! and went for a hauler. Trading rocks already and its only beta! I reckon I will have enough for a cobra in a few days, so...............

What do the cobra experts recommend? I was thinking 2 x cf pulse and 2 c2 rail guns

I've been hit by rail guns a few times and they bloody hurt!

I was wondering about power usage though. I don't want the lights to go out in my ship when I hit the fire button!

I did almost the same as you but I went from Hauler to Type 6 and got myself up to about Cr.350k before buying my Cobra.

I went for:
2 x CL3 Multi Cannons [Gimbaled]
2x CL2 Rail Guns [Fixed]
Point Defence Turret
K-Warrant Scanner
Mirror Armour (this alone was Cr.150k)

I just got killed trying to dock with a bounty and two vipers on my ass, was being a bit too cocky to be honestand deserved it. The insurance cost to get my full old loadout was Cr.25k so make sure you keep some money in reseve.

I have roughly Cr.100k in the bank and that will only get me 4 insurance revives which makes me nervous.

As for the loadout, the multi cannons are awesome and cheap to refill. The rail guns are a bit rubbish in my opinion and don't do much damage that I can see, plus they overheat the ship really so chasing down an eagle with boost rules them out.

Hope this helps.

C4 Rail gun, C4 beam (or pulse or missile rack, experiment)
2x C2 multicanon for backup.

But this requires to cycle between firegroups.

Not an expert but I've been learning with C1 Multicannon (G) on the front and C1 Burst Lasers (G) on the wings. random encounters with NPCs are levelled accordingly.

I used to have the C3 Pulse (G) on the front (a bug caused them to fail to track the enemy) and fixed multicannons on the wings (too far apart for close quarter fighting).

Id say go for C4/C2 Cannons. Theyre a skillshot weapon like the Railgun but oh boy they do make pretty big holes. Taking down an Anaconda solo is no problem.

Rail Guns suck now. Heat dissipation is too slow and they do too little damage, although I didn't try the C4's. But the biggest issue is that they're back to Alpha 1 levels of power capacitor drain. Much of the time, you'll try to shoot, they'll charge up, and then at the very end of the cycle go red because you didn't have enough power in the capacitor for them to discharge. Very annoying, very unfun.

I just kitted out my Viper with 2 C4 cannons, and 2 C1 Pulse Lasers, and have been just owning face. The Cannons will 1-shot a sidewinder with no shields. I plan to experiment with gimballed beam and burst lasers to replace the Pulses once I have some spare cash and can find a place to buy them that's not across the galaxy from where I'd use them.

The Cobra has the same hardpoints, but in less useful positions. (Gimballed weapons work better when they can fire into the upper hemisphere.) The one tricky bit is that the Cobra is no longer king of the heap when it comes to speed, and you *need* to be able to control range in order to get any use out of the canons. (They have a slow refire rate and slow projectiles, you need to be close to reliably hit anything.)

there is an art to them. They are still deadly, but more so on the eagle and the viper where you can fit two of them without them being spaced to far apart.

You have to cycle your power between systems and weapons as well as shutting down frameshift drive, cargo hatch etc.

My preferred cobra loadout:

2 x C3 Multicannons
1 x C2 railgun
1 x C2 Missile rack.

I've tried a few different things, gimballed and non. Currently I'm using 2 C4 pulse lasers, a c2 pulse laser and a c2 missile rack but I think I'll change that to 2 c4 multicannons and 2 c2 pulse lasers.

The reason being that multicannons on the wings is a bit of a waste, if they're close you can only hit with one of them. I don't really like only being able to have two firegroups. If I could have more I'd have one cannon/multicannon, one missile rack, two lasers.

I had a crack at an Anaconda with a big bounty recently. Took it's shields down no problems but 10 missiles and it's hull was still strong so was a massive waste of money.

Any other tips on different loadouts I should try and reasons behind them?
