That thread was specifically about FD NOT laying off staff and indeed adding to it. Really nothing to do with stopping blowing smoke up our butts. Which, btw, Michael deemed worthy of closing while leaving threads (like this one) open for days and weeks.

What did I learn? If you want a thread to stay open then whine and moan, if not, then post something 100% true and positive and it'll be closed or merged.

How many times are you going to use the phrase "blowing smoke up our butts"...?

This thread has been answered with sound and thoughtful reason by not only me but many others -including developers- who understand at least the basics of development process and why iteration of the original design can be long winded, always undergoes change and why dates cannot be set, yet you refuse to take any of this into account and just repeat this same tired and slightly insulting mantra as though the Dev's are lying is some way.

Not sure why you are being so venomous of late when your previous posting always seemed rational and thoughtful but its not a pleasant read :(

Really show me one single Dev response that's on topic?

What term would you prefer pray tell?

I don't know where you are from but, where I'm from not telling the truth, misleading people, pretending something doesn't exist by ignoring it and trying to make something seems like something it's not, is lying. Again, I must just be old, these all used to be called "lying". What do you kids call it these days?

Also, no one is forcing you to read this thread, if you don't like "blowing smoke up our butts" you have my permission to stop participating in this thread or to use the "ignore" function FD has so kindly provided for you.

Also, something from FD addressing the state the game was released in, doesn't have to be this thread, would be just wonderful. Instead the issue is just ignored and all is well.

We use different channels for providing different bits of information. The forums tend to be specific responses for discussions and also for my new weekly dev update.

Information can be spaced out for a number of reasons. In some cases it's because we don't know, in others we're not ready to talk about it yet. We also space out information to allow there to be a flow of new things we can show and talk about - that also means that there's specific discussions and avoids us being swamped by throwing everything out at once. Even with a targetted approach it's difficult for me to keep up with everything that's happening on the forums.

One of the reasons for the new weekly dev updates is to provide a new mechanism for revealing information on what we're doing and what's coming up and that of course works in tandem with the newsletters, social media and press coverage.

Thanks Mike, that's a great answer and I'll let this one lay.

Can I cancel my subscription to the newsletters and subscribe to your weekly dev updates instead? :p

Any insight as to why the game was released as it was on DEC. 16th as opposed to being delayed?

So much for letting it lay...

All games have to be released at some point and when the game is going to be an ongoing work in progress -as FD have stated many times- then why not release when the basics of the game are in place and the timing is best suited to sell units and for-fill earlier promised dates?

Yes they could have put the release back another 6 months but then people would just complain about other types of "missing features/content" ...

Games such as this are never finished and getting to a basic decent working state and then releasing is always the best course of action in my opinion.

Edit: ninja'd by someone who knows far than I about development and said what I said but much more succinctly.

Nothing beyond that's the date we set ourselves and that's what we pushed for. The game was always going to be a rolling development so we had to put a stake in the sand somewhere.

Michael

Well got an on topic dev response, who do I owe $5 ?

Please close and or delete the thread. Thanks.

That was confusion on my part between this and a different thread.

NOW I'll let it lay.

Rolling development is fine. I signed for it.

The problem is that you failed to deliver what was actually promised at launch. You marketed and still market this game as MMO and in it's current state it simply is a lie.

Everything about the MMO part is either broken / buggy or non-functional by design.

If you guys were Ubisoft or EA or some other well hated company, the issues your game is having would blow up all over gaming press.

I reported this thread and ask it be closed and/or deleted. you guys can carry on if you wish but, I got my answer so, I'm letting this one go.
