Recipe for disaster

Given ED's track history of borking updates, am I the only one that thinks dropping a major update at the start of the holiday season was utterly insane?

We have as always a pretty monumental level of installation and game issues, the QA team is entirely unavailable until next year and FDev have no one in place to introduce patches?

*sigh*

I don't know, man. Aside from minor bugs and annoyances, the game seems pretty stable and playable.

We may have to put up with some stuff until after the new year, but in my opinion it's not that bad. Pretty good, actually.

Well, maybe? I do have genuine sympathy for some of the people experiencing issues, some others can go do one (mostly distinguished by their posting history). However... I have (knock on wood), experinced only one crash issue since 3.3 - after saving and closing the game - which is far batter than BF1 & Fortnite my kids have experienced over the same period. So much for the master race.

I guess if you keep trying to do any of the stuffs associated with the existing bugs, it could get annoying. I've just been lucky that the ventures I've been pursuing seem to be the least buggy. A few momentary stutters aside, my game time has been trouble free. Missions are working, and the FSS has given me no trouble.

Soon I will be grabbing up a Mamba, and delving into some of the new mining technology. (These intentions are not connected) Maybe I'll face some issues with those interests, but in my observation so far the complaints over this patch have been over-blown. Let's hope I don't have to learn otherwise.

I can't play the game at all -_-

Game won't update, have been through every section of the FAQ info and done as suggested - and that's given my many years in IT troubleshooting.

My bud is also having some in game issues and cannot resolve some faction state changes.

And at present the available support we have is non-existent.

Glad you're alright though ;)

Recipe For Disaster was my old band's name. Lol

I use the term "band" loosely.
As we had just one guitarist, no drummer, no singer, and I couldn't play any instruments, but was desperately trying to learn guitar, trying.

:D

Would make an excellent squadron name.

Well most of the bugs I've encountered are annoying rather than game breaking and I think will survive until the new year, happy holidays see you in the black. o7.

I think it was better FD came out with 3.3 for the holiday season for the end of the year than postponing it. Seeing that FD can never win even if bugs are hardly noticeable in a better update. Now they can leave the support crew working with 3.3 issues while the rest work on the future of ED's next "milestones".

Yup. Someone recently said he killed the same assassination target 6 times and it just wouldn't register. Sure, that's annoying, but I would've stopped after the first attempt.

Then we have those who can't figure out the controls and can't be bothered to load the default bindings either.

Others complain about issues that don't even exist, like seing system chat. It takes like two clicks to disable it, which is less than it takes to complain on the forums.

What's left are probably a handful of serious issues which can be avoided once you learn about them.

And last but not least, those who experience real game breaking stuff like not being able to start the game or a corrupted savegame. But judging from the current activity and number of reports that's probably 1/1000.

PS
Forgot about the server freezes which is probably the most annoying and frequent issue since it seems to affect everyone.

There are some annoyances - infamous micro freeze, luckly very rare for me - but nothing I would say is a disaster. Number of bugs are consistent with so complex release.

Recipe for disaster

1. Choose one good sized software update
2. Rinse off a couple of the most egregious bugs under the beta tap
3. Season inside and out with forum salt
4. Bake untended on high in multiple locations for 2 weeks
5. Serve with phantom garnishes, a krait of beer, and opalescent sauce.

Enjoy:D

Sharp observations. This has been going on since release, 4 years back.

I havent played this game myself for two years but in the past pilots were quiet happy with broken patches, special when it resulted in excessive income and cried when ED started fixing it, you seem to be a rare species or the community has changed ?

Appreciate the sentiment, but you have kinda highlighted the point I was making - why would ya let loose a "complex" release just as the majority of support goes on holiday?

I'm glad that a lot of y'all can play the game as (mostly) intended. I'm not particularly cool with being entirely unable to play the game and the only support being four days away though, and I can see a few other in-game issues on the bug reporting that won't be addressed correctly due to their choice timing.

If FD actually managed to release a generally disaster free update I'm proud of them, but why taint that by removing support for those affected?

" in the past pilots were quiet happy with broken patches"...my friend, I thank you for giving me a much needed laugh this evening ;)

Because while bugs experienced are annoyances, they allow game to be played by most of players?

It is economics. They can't fix all bugs and wait for perfect release. It is just a nature of the beast. They can try their best. And they will do.

I understand your disappointment. Nothing else to add there really, as I am not FD QA and can't help you with your issues.

I wouldn't really expect QA being able to come during Christmas. it would be cool of course...
