Hardware & Technical Recommendations for UK custom pc company

Pah, tried to rep you for the advice but the computer says no, something about spreading love around a bit more :p

I would really love to have a go at building my own but the fear of messing up some pretty expensive kit is too great for me.

It used to be a real chore, back in the day, now it's more like Lego or Meccano! I spec my PC right down to the case fans - probably a bit @nal (bloody censor) but I enjoy the whole process. The only time I ever really messed up was pressing something into the mobo while it was plugged in - I pressed so hard the underside of the mobo came into contact with the case and it went pop with a nice puff of smoke. Apart from that it's mostly configuration tweaks but Google help fix those.

Custom mades are not hugely more expensive that the sum of the components now anyway - so it's probably a more sensible path really. Let us know what you go for.

Oh and while I'm at it is water cooling a good thing or a bad thing? Pretty sure I want to go down this route but some part of me thinks water and electrics shouldn't mix!

Hi Phil..

You only really need liquid cooling if you are going crazy on overclocking your system. I'd say even allowing for enthusiast overclocking, air cooling is going to be fine for most peoples needs.

Given you are buying some high end stuff I'd make sure you get a decent case that has good air flow. Something like a Zalaman Z11 is decent.

If I were you I would be looking to replace the stock cpu heat sink and fan with something a bit more able. It would allow for some over clocking if you chose. i.e. Arctic Cooling Freezer (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-Cool...8&qid=1380810877&sr=8-3&keywords=heatsink+fan)

If you are getting it made for you, I expect you can probably ask them to build it to your spec.

If you need any other help feel free to PM me.

Thanks for that Cosmos, I wan't planning to overclock at the moment but I might further down the line. Clears things up a bit and thanks for the advice on the case at the moment I'm looking at the Coolermaster Elite 430 in black.

That's a good heat sink/fan that Cosmos is suggesting. I have one of those in a system I built recently with an i7 4770K OC 4.7GHz, although I did step it down to 4.5GHz because I'm not that brave :D

As a bit of a technophobe I am in need of help. Pretty sure I've nailed down a spec for a pc involving an AMD FX 8350 and a GTX 770. I've had a look around the internet and the following companies are quoting a pretty similar price to build a sytem; overclockers, pc Specialist and Dino PC. Has anyone had any dealings with any of them.

Several friends of mine have PCs by DinoPC and I'm planning to use them myself next year. Good service, reliable components, web-site interface is nice to use. Only problem was in one instance where the courier treated the PC a bit roughly and a part came loose, but DinoPC were great at sorting it out. In general couriers are a bit of a nightmare from what I've heard. You may want to find a company close to you so you can just pick up the computer yourself.
