Recommended first ship set up?

OK, so I'm still probably HOURS of game time away from saving enough credits to buy a new ship, but I also FINALLY found a space station that sells some decent ship upgrades.

So for a basic sidewinder, what are experienced players recommending for early on ship set ups?

I finally got a damn mining laser turret (only one) and kept the other standard weapon laser. But at least I can mine now. Only have 4 cargo spaces anyway! Lol

I also bought the fuel scoop, but I removed it and stored it so I can install the collection limpet. I've been doing quite a few trade data missions, so I figure the collector would help grab all that stuff in space.

I also did an FSD upgrade I think, so I can jump up to 10Ly now.

Any suggestions on what can be removed and what we should be buying and upgrading first and foremost?

Hello Cmdr. I would suggest the first things to upgrade is fsd then power distributor, then shields and weapons etc. Look for systems with hitec stations for the best equipment. At the start of the game, making credits is important. A good way to start (once you mastered landing!) is going to a LOWRES site (usually found in planetary rings) and do some bounty Hunting. Get some shots in at the end and you get the bounty. Remember to scan wanted targets first or you'll gain a bounty. And don't forget a Kill Warrant Scanner for extra credits. That is one way to earn credits. If done right you could be on a viper mk3 or cobra mk 3 quite quickly. Nice to see a new Cmdr in the pilot seat. Fly safe o7

Yea can't afford a kill warrant scanner just yet. I'd rather buy a new ship first before I go get in fights. I want decent firepower and protection and in open play I don't think the sidewinder cuts it.

And I was thinking about getting the docking computer. I'm fairly decent at landing, but it's still a pretty slow process. I don't really care about the "experience" of manual landing. So if I can have the computer do it then that'd be better and faster.

I don't see why you could not get a viper in a matter of hours. I understand I've got the experience (xbox One player) but if you got to any Res and let the 'cops' attack a target, all you need to do is scan the target and take a couple of shots when the target is around 3% hull and you'll get the bounty. Just remember to scan the target first.

I don't know what a res is. I've been to a few systems so far and I've seen quite a few fed ships, but no one with bounties just flying around.

He means a Resource Extraction Site. There are usually plenty of pirates trying to rob miners, so lots of ships with bounties on them.
