Also worth noting most people have their display slightly farther away than a book or newspaper would be, so another reason a lot of people use 125% is because 10pt text @ 100% (ie true size) is slightly too small to be readable on that far-away display. It is readable in a book on your lap.

I have two pairs of specs specifically for computer work. The focal distance was specified by me - one pair are just intermediate-distance glasses, the other are what are called occupational bifocals - so intermediate range straight ahead, reading distance below - these are obviously for use when I need to read something but also use the computer screen. So for example when I am using paper charts for flight sim planning, I can read the chart in focus and just look up to my PC screen also in focus - obviously there are many other occasions where the bifocals are useful. When playing games or flying in a sim (yes I know it looks more like a game these days) I just wear the occupational ones.

N.B. I once tried using a varifocal type of occupational prescription - made me motion sick and I served 25 years in the RN with never once experiencing that.

I probably pay for my opticians annual cruise with my four pairs of prescription glasses: distance, reading, intermediate and occupational.
