Here's a random idea.
Currently, when assaulting (or just trying to find my way around) a new base, I either have to put on my thinking cap, and memorise the base layout while doing flybys, fast enough to not get shot down, but slow enough to see everything, or I use the debug camera to scout the base layout from the SRV. Both are fine, but I always like to suggest new fun ideas. So here it is.
What I'm suggesting is basically an official unarmed scout drone you can launch from the SRV. (Somehow, a new built in utility?).
Once launched you fly it in to position over your target area (similar to the SLF, only tiny), avoiding getting too close to anything that may want to shoot it. It'd be hard to detect, but not impossible, and can still set off trespass warnings. Being tiny, it's generally hard to hit.
Then you can hop back in to the SRV, and it'll allow you to target all objects, including all cargo items, and data terminals within 250m of the drone in all directions (500m diameter). The drone will hover in place when not directly controlled.
You must stay within 1.5km of the drone or risk losing contact (simply move back in to range to gain access). At 2km the drone self destructs. You can recall the drone at any time, providing it's in range.
And you only get one drone per SRV. But a new one could be synthesized.
If that idea worked well, later on you could get armed larger drones, to assist with base assaults.
