I'd love to think you could deploy a number of limpets which fan out and maintain formation around you, a good distance out. If they fly over/near anything as you move about, they'll notify you (send a message, hover over it, start buzzing/beeping/flashing etc.) It'd let you scan planetary surfaces quicker without going bug-eyed.
Obvious problem with that is you can (currently) only deploy limpets in normal flight, not supercruise; and you'd really want to scan planets at the highest speed possible.

This sounds like a cool idea if these can used for planetary exploration. Sounds like it would be a stepping stone to send out probes to find interesting things in a system.
