recording from the additional display vs direct from the rift

Hey guys I wanted to get your opinion on something

OK so when I record from the debug window I crop a lot of the image in order to get the correct aspect ratio but obviously this means a lower quality video due to less detail.
It could be me but it seems like the debug window is less detailed anyway.

example:

Its 'clear' in the sense that it is just one image but you can see what i mean about the quality loss. Also It does seem to impact performance a little, occasionaly a lot.

Now, the other night I was introducing a friend to ED and wanted to record it, but i was having some problems with the debug window so decided to just record directly from the rift
it came out like this:

obviously having the two images up isnt ideal but the quality of the image seems to me to be much higher, it also seemed to have far less impact on performance
(using bandicam pro to record)

so my question is which do you think makes the better video? The lower quality but perhaps more coherent debug recording, or the higher quality but perhaps a little confusing direct recording?

Well the streaming video is not for you, its for the people watching, and direct from rift it give the appearance that the game is messy due to the chromatic abrasion effect needed for the Rifts optics.

When I first started streaming and before I knew about the streaming window, I had many people simply turned off from it just because of that.

It one of those "first impression" things.. they see that and do not understand the physics of the optics and that we do not see it in the rift, and think that all VR has weird colors along the edge and write it off.

But if they see an image that does not look like a fisheye and has sharp detail, then they are more interested

Yeah I think I have to agree, even though I have watched a few direct from oculus videos myself I think the lower looking resolution from the 2nd window is best. I just wish it didn't impact performance so much although I think a lot of that is maybe that I run the same at 2.25x super resolution in order to make up for the rifts low resolution. Maybe with the HTC Vive or CV1 higher resolution display I could run at a lower resolution and get better performance.

nevermind, figured it out i just dragged the window over into the rift and then hit fullscreen. yes that is very cool although i see what you mean about the head motion :D
