Recording Video in ED

I've been using Open Broadcast to record in-game video but for some random reason it's started to play-up.

Can anyone recommend an alternative?

- Something free
- Lightweight
- Record to YouTube file-format directly

Thanks

I use Xsplit, but I use it as I struggle with OBS too, it gave me a few issues I couldn't work out.

Nvidia experience has a built in one that I have not managed to get to work and for the life of me I can't remember what its called!!!

Great help I am... SORRY!!

Oh wait.. it's Shadowplay... I have used Fraps... meh

Just randomly stops recording or splits videos in to multiple files or just randomly leaves me with a video that can't be played.

The HDD it records on has loads of free space and no errors.

Are you using x264 or NVENC codec to capture?

If you goto setting>Encoding> Nvidia NVENC codec, I would recommend this over x264.

Sometimes I can't get a vid to play via VLC, but WMP usually works, as an alternative back up.

No idea about the file splitting, unless they are super large.. but that shouldn't be the case.

Thanks for the response. Only have the option of x264 as I have an ATI card

Windows won't recognise the files (size is provided, but not length), VLC doesn't like them and I can't convert them - they're pretty much b0rked I think which is a shame (my last was my newly purchased Cobra :( )

Worked great at first, I think it may have stopped working since an earlier update.

Ahh I see....lol well thats the limit of my expertise

Possibly give MSI Afterburner a try? Personally I haven't tried it but heard people with ATI cards recomend it before, Or DXtory, which I have tried but found rather, clunky.

Maybe someone else with more knowledge on this will be able to help.

Regardless, thanks :) I think I'll ditch it, if something doesn't work which is pretty basic then I'll move on until I find something that does. I think (in hindsight) Open Broadcast is more suited to streaming :S I just found it saves to files really easily so made the most of it.

If you wanted an external solution you could try a Live Gamer from avermedia
I used to use Fraps, but it crucified my PC and gave me crap frame rates to boot.
Not cheap, but won't affect your fps, and can stream to YouTube or twitch.
I'm using this.

You could of course use it on a console or anything else with a hdmi out just as easily.

Play Claw is another option, I think it has a free trial, is on steam as well as direct.

Edit : Qualifier, won't affect frame rate up to 60fps, the limit of hdmi, unless of course you find a way of cloning the output whilst using dvi, but if already using hdmi you won't see a difference.

I saw MSI Afterburner but It seems to be a card optimiser and I couldn't see the recording side of it..

Might be worth looking into though..

I am very happy with my Xsplitz, and I was very happy with obs too..

Shadowplay, Xsplitz and obs all support streaming to twitch tv as well as saving local feeds...

I have found my happy settings in Xsplitz to get the quality of video I want... all be it MASSIVE file sizes....
